LEGAL OFFICER

POSITION: LEGAL OFFICER

DEPARTMENT: LEGAL REPORTS TO: HEAD OF LEGAL KENYA

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

The purpose of the role is to provide legal advice and support to the Bank and its various departments on all matters, to ensure the efficient and proper perfection of all Bank securities, to liaise with external legal counsel on all matters affecting the Bank and assist the Company Secretary in the statutory duties for the Bank and its subsidiaries both in Kenya and Tanzania.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PERCENTAGE TIME SPENT

  • Quality of documentation perfection for bank securities (30%)
  • Quality of legal services (30%)
  • Adequacy of personal competence to effectively perform the recovery tasks (10%)
  • Consistency in adherence to and effective application of established policies, processes, procedures and tools in achieving optimal efficiency and cost containment (30%)

COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and manage expectations of customers and other stake holders who impact quality of legal services.
  • Technical skills to effectively perform legal activities/tasks in a manner that consistently produce high quality of service.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Law (LL.B) Degree from a recognized University
  • At least 4 years’ experience in legal practice, particularly in security perfection and review of commercial transactions
  • Working knowledge of the legal environment for Banking and general business/commerce in Kenya
  • Working knowledge of the lending practice for financial institutions, particularly lending to the different market segments – corporate, SMEs and retail banking
  • Working knowledge of business management and banking acquired through practical experience in a work environment, seminars and courses on business and banking related subjects
  • Registered CPS with the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya
  • Participant in Continuous Education programs under both the Law Society of Kenya and ICPSK
  • Practical experience acquired through working in a banking institution; working knowledge of banking business acquired through participation in facility structure meetings, Due diligence exercises and management of non-performing loan portfolio to reduce outstanding.
  • Working knowledge of business management and banking acquired through practical experience in a work environment, seminars and courses on business and banking related subjects
  • Registered CPS with the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

This is both a control and systems assurance role responsible for banking systems validations for accuracy and completeness of transactions, and resulting revenues authentication from both technical and business standards.

  • University degree in Computer Science or equivalent IT degree – 2nd Class Upper Division or 3.0 GPA.
  • Experience in supporting core banking application and competence in T24, SAP and Calypso environments.
  • Four years’ experience in supporting IT systems in general. Knowledge of banking operations and products.
  • Knowledge of banking operations and products.
  • Knowledge of accountancy is an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in use of relevant MS Office applications.

POSITION: SENIOR INVESTMENT MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: CBA CAPITAL

REPORTS TO: CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

This is a technical and client facing role which will entail managing pension funds, private wealth and unit trusts portfolios in order to meet client requirements and grow assets under management. The role holder shall be a member of the Investment team and he/she shall be a lead investment manager and advisor to clients on all portfolios under his/her management. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring client investment policy statements and terms of engagement are consistently adhered to.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PERCENTAGE TIME SPENT

Business Development (25%) – managing and retaining existing relationships and generating new business in the pensions, wealth management and unit trusts.

Portfolio Management (40%) – Adequate technical skills to effectively formulate client’s investment policy statements, assess client risk, return and portfolio constraint characteristics, model portfolio, execute the client portfolio, monitor performance and rebalance portfolio as necessary, prepare portfolio performance reports and make presentations to clients, investments committees and other stakeholders.

Client Relationship Management (20%) – Adequacy of personal competence to effectively perform Account Relationship Management tasks to ensure the customer relations are maintained well to reduce complaints and also retain existing customers by

management of customer expectations. Develop strategies for maintaining and further penetrating existing client base and execute the strategy through calls, visits, needs assessment, customer qualification and follow-up meetings to maintain, enhance and expand customer relationships. 

New Products Development (5%) – Ability to listen and articulate client/market needs and industry trends and prepare/propose or lead in the development of new product to be offered to individual clients, target client groups and collective investment vehicles.

Reporting, General Administration and Revenue Management (5%) – Responsible for preparing internal management reports on client calls, portfolio under management, allocated revenue. The role will also follow through with the back office and front office teams to ensure accuracy of client records, adherence to KYC requirements, completion of portfolio execution and allocation decisions, issuance of client report etc. as may be applicable.

Risk Management (5%) – Consistency in adherence to and application of established policies, processes, and tools to achieve optimal efficiency, compliance and cost containment. Minimization of exposures to and impact of risks associated with client portfolio in line with the CBA asset management policies, CMA regulatory requirements, KYC and AML policies.

COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Portfolio management skills and ability to conduct client and partner presentations and meetings on the firm’s investment strategy, account performance and new products.
  •  Knowledge and experience in modern sales & marketing practices in financial services industry and possess sales aptitude.
  • Interpersonal skills to create and maintain relevant business networks; and to effectively communicate with and manage customer expectations (internal and external), and other stakeholders who impact performance.
  • Knowledge of Investment products & services and market trends.
  • Knowledge and effective application of all relevant banking policies, processes, procedures and guidelines to consistently achieve required compliance standards or benchmarks.
  • Risk management: Appreciation and experience in recognitions and mitigation of risks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Dynamic, resourceful and achievement-oriented.
  • Good understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements of all products.
  • Dedication and Discretion is highly essential.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
