Manager- Energy, Environment & Climate Change

Job purpose

The Manager will be responsible for managing the project and programs under the Energy, Environment and Climate Change (EE&CC) pillar as well as a team of senior officers and officer within the pillar.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth running of the EE&CC Pillar
  • Lead, guide and motivate EE&CC team in executing the pillar’s mission and objectives in line with Equity’s mission.
  • Develop the pillar’s strategies & projections and communicate the same to the team for execution.
  • Planning, assigning and supervising pillar projects per sector at the same time design jobs and specify tasks.
  • Will be the lead partner relationship manager and will use the opportunity to identify areas Equity can leverage to attain its social, environmental and commercial goals.
  • Establishment and maintaining a close working relationship among the pillar team, other departments of EGF and the Bank to ensure smooth running of the EE&CC Pillar Programs.
  • Assisting the pillar head in aligning and managing the Pillar’s projects per sector and aligning them to the Bank’s objective of driving business through eco-system banking.
  • Working closely the M&E team develop relevant project tracking tools for accurate and timely progress reports
  • Coordinating & supporting execution of projects undertaken between EGF, the Bank and energy partners.
  • Promoting and cross selling the Banks’ products to energy partners. Support and/ or facilitate market, information/ knowledge and financial linkages and support build-up of business networks for the energy & environment eco-systems.
  • Working closely with Pillar partners to specific sectors/individuals to facilitate customer satisfaction in service delivery
  • Coordinate and participate in capacity building activities for Equity staff, partners and customers
  • Ensure proper continuous documentation and dissemination/ reporting of activities.

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree a business-related course, environmental science, renewable energy or Sustainability
  • Professional training in data or people management, or related courses will be an added advantage

Experience

  • At least four years’ work experience with reputable organization especially in green projects, sustainable finance
  • Experience in top level people management
  • Good experience in training

The position entails coverage of an extensive knowledge in climate related projects, management and may require frequent travels within Kenya and the subsidiaries,

Reporting Line

The Manager will report directly to the Pillar Head.

Senior Officer- Blue Economy

Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager Equity Group Foundation Food and Agriculture Pillar (F&A), The Blue Economy Senior Officer will provide technical support in Blue Economy and Marine Litter under a program titled ‘Financing Innovation N Entrepreneurship (FINE) program implemented through a Partnership of Equity Group Foundation, Equity Bank and NORAD. The program aims to tap the potential offered by the Blue Economy, Marine Litter, and renewable energy (Thematic areas) sector for entrepreneurship, employment, and sustainable aquatic foods.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Identify, mobilize, and conduct sensitization forums of the project target beneficiaries, partners, and value chain actors.
  • Enroll the targeted beneficiaries into the project in accordance with the project-set target and timelines.
  •  Introduce the project beneficiaries to Equity Bank for them to learn and access relevant financial services based on their financial needs.
  • Reporting on the various activities relevant to the program focusing on client engagement and impact reported or identified. Track progress on a weekly basis and provide routine updates as agreed with the supervisor. 
  • Deliver training programs on Financial Education, aquatic food systems, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. 
  • Support Fish farmers and players in the aquatic food value chain in implementing appropriate practices to increase productivity and improve their technical, financial and entrepreneurship skill.
  • Conduct regular entrepreneurs/ beneficiaries’ visits and inspections to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct analysis of production data and performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for increased productivity and profitability.
  • Evaluate and support implementation of technologies and practices that enhance production efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and improve product quality.
  • Collaborating with external stakeholders, such as government agencies, research institutions, and industry associations, to promote best practices and ensure compliance with regulations. 
  • To keep abreast of relevant changes in government policy in Aquaculture that could affect the Program me and advise management accordingly. 
  •  To undertake any other duty as may be directed by the line manager or Program Manager from time to time.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a strong understanding of the Blue Economy and Marine Litter as it relates to aquatic food systems.  The candidate must have professional and technical skills in aquatic Food systems.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, General agriculture, Marine biology, Environmental studies, or related field. 
  • Knowledge/ certification on technical skills related to aquatic food systems sustainability.
  • 5 years’ experience in the aquaculture sector and a strong value chains and market engagement focus
  • Good understanding of marine ecosystems, fisheries management, and sustainable development principles.
  • Familiarity with relevant national and international regulations and agreements related to the blue economy is a plus.
  • Passion for environmental conservation and a commitment to promoting sustainable practices in the blue economy.

Agribusiness Advisors

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Regional Manager Equity Group Foundation Food and Agriculture Pillar (F&A), the Agribusiness Advisors will act as an integral part of implementing the EGF Food and Agriculture projects. The Agribusiness Advisors will be responsible for recruitment and supporting the project target beneficiaries by implementing different interventions across the County.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Identify, mobilize, and conduct sensitization forums of the project target beneficiaries, partners, and value chain actors.
  • Enroll the targeted beneficiaries into the project in accordance with the project-set target and timelines.
  • Train the project beneficiaries in Financial Education, Agribusiness, and Good Agriculture Practices, aquatic food systems, biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. 
  • Support farmers and other players in the food and agriculture value chain in implementing appropriate practices to increase productivity and improve their technical, financial and entrepreneurship skill.
  • Introduce the project beneficiaries to Equity Bank for them to learn and access relevant financial services based on their financial needs. 
  • Visit farmer groups on a regular basis to provide mentoring/coaching and track the implementation of the project interventions. 
  • Respond to farmer queries regarding agribusiness and financial services to enhance their knowledge in farm decision-making. 
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly status reports to Field Managers, Branch Managers, and the project management as required. 
  • Organize, coordinate, and execute project activities as per the project work plan and targets (e.g., field days, exchange visits, value chain actors’ collaboration meetings, etc. 
  • Represent Equity Group in agriculture to other Equity staff and local partners in the respective branches, counties, and regions. 
  • Work with the monitoring and evaluation team to collect quality project data as required at all stages of project life.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in agriculture, Aquaculture, Fisheries, General agriculture, Marine biology, Environmental studies, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Animal production/health, Range Management, Agroforestry, Agricultural Extension and Education, Horticulture, or any other agriculture-related degree from a recognized University.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in industry
  • Ability to evaluate challenges at the farm level and work to implement interventions to solve the challenges. 
  • Have a good understanding of farming dynamics from food security, household incomes, and agriculture commercialization points of view.
  • Good knowledge of Equity’s financial products and services suitable for farmers and SMEs
  • Excellent communication skills, both writing and verbal.
  • Good social skills for initiating
