Position: Chief Librarian

The successful candidate will be an innovative individual who not only dreams of realizing a dynamic, tech-powered environment but also possesses strong capability in actualizing ideas into actions and results. The responsibilities are as detailed below:

  • Building collections to respond to changing community needs or demands;
  • Design and implement innovative and creative ways of building collection including sourcing from donations from “Friends of Zetech University Library’ -the users, the public, other institutions etc
  • Writing grants to gain funding for expanded program or collections;
  • Do regular stock take to establish collection quantities identifying gaps for losing collection and working to seal them;
  • Oversee the security of the physical and e collection by supervising movement;
  • Maintain databases and records concerning the movement as well as the location of library collection, including intradepartmental and student lending and retrieval;
  • Research and gather requirements for development of new digital initiatives and technology solutions for library services and provide support and instruction to library and other staff in the implementation, development and use of digital information sources, applications and equipment;
  • Verification of bibliographic details of library materials to ensure that the correct items are ordered;
  • Ensure that staff and students have access to an appropriate range of print and E-resources, by working with procurement and finance staff and academic subject heads to identify, trial, select and implement new products and services;
  • Play a key role in the process of identifying, procuring and managing the next generation of print and E-Resources in line with the university strategy and teaching and learning developments;
  • Manage security processes to ensure library resources are not lost;
  • Provision of quick reference and information services to users for effective use of library materials;
  • Oversee the cataloging of new receipts and established collection as well as classifying and tracking media
  • throughout campus on an as-needed basis;
  • Organization of library stock (shelving and shelf reading) to facilitate identification and retrieval of information resources;
  • Verification and physical processing of acquired information resources to ensure the correct orders are supplied;

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • Masters’ degree in Library and Information studies from a recognized university;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Librarian level in a University library;
  • Knowledge KOHA, Library accreditation requirements, and online subscription and usage;
  • Having registered/is registrable for a PhD is an added advantage;
  • Must be familiar with KLISC;
  • Passionate about education;
  • Good understanding of University procedures and standards;
  • Understanding of CUE, ministry and other regulatory body operations, standards and guidelines;
  • A motivated self-starter with a positive attitude;
  • An effective, hands-on leader capable of working independently and committed to working collaboratively with a range of colleagues from across the university;
  • Demonstrate proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability;
  • Demonstrate ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast- paced environment
