VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT
PCEA Chogoria Hospital was established in 1922 and serves as a referral and teaching hospital. It has a 295 bed capacity that focuses on the provision of Curative, Preventive and Promotive Health Care services in the greater Meru, Embu and as far as Isiolo and Marsabit Counties.

We are seeking to fill the following position:
1. NURSING TUTOR- ( 1 POST)
Position Summary
This position is responsible for delivery of high quality instruction to students, in line with various regulatory bodies and Clive Irvine College of Health Science standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide theoretical and clinical instruction to students to ensure acquisition of all domain of competency
- Evaluate academic progress of students, record findings and devise action plans where necessary.
- Develop and review curriculum in line with Nursing Council requirements
- Conduct student evaluation (theory and practical) to monitor academic progress.
- Maintain clinical competency by regular clinical practice and take responsibility for own professional development.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement, clinical audit and research.
- Ensure proper management of consumables to maximize efficiency and cost control.
- Manage the relationship with all key stakeholders both internally and externally and maintain appropriate communication with them.
- Perform any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor or the Hospital Management in the best interest of the institution
Academic and professional Qualifications for the Position
- Minimum of BSC. Nursing/ DAN
- Must be registered by the Nursing Council Kenya
- Current & up to date practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
- A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the learning environment and teaching methodology
- Research and development skills an advantage
- Have current knowledge of industry practices, trends and issues (specific knowledge with regards to healthcare services and related education)
- Being registered with CDAC/TVETA will be an added advantage
Required skills and competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization.

2. LABORATORY QUALITY OFFICER (1Post)
Position Summary
To ensure that Quality management System is kept up to date, that it remains suitable and it is regularly evaluated and monitored. To ensure all PCEA Chogoria Hospital laboratory activities are in compliance with its own Quality Management System, ISO 15189 standard and regulations from accrediting bodies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To ensure that all processes of the Quality Management
- System are established implemented & maintained
- To promote awareness of users’ needs and requirements throughout PCEA Chogoria Hospital Laboratory
- To coordinate annual reviews of all documents of the Quality Management System to ensure continued suitability.
- To guide and coordinate document control processes for PCEA Chogoria Hospital Laboratory. Provide direction on proper identification filling, retrieval and archiving of documents in accordance with records control procedure.
- To head, coordinate the development and maintenance of the laboratories ‘quality plan. Regularly review, and ensure compliance with quality management systems.
- Collaborates with the Laboratory manager in corresponding with accrediting bodies.
- To ensure that accreditation standards are upheld in the laboratory
- To inform accrediting body of major changes in the laboratory that might affect accreditation status.
- To ensure that patient results are released only by authorized competent personnel.
- To plan and coordinate scheduled internal audits of all the laboratory processes.
- To coordinate staff training on Quality Management System.
- To assist heads of units in evaluating control data to determine trends and carry out corrective actions on the undesirable ones.
- To report audit results and trends to other members of the laboratory management team.
- To assist in development of corrective actions plan to address any non-conformances identified through internal audits, customer complaints or accidents or incidents investigation.
- Corroborating and advising heads of units, the laboratory manager and the head of the laboratory to plan the validation process for the new procedures for new procedures and equipment.
- To participate in undertaking performance appraisal reviews for staff.
- To provide advice on the evaluation and selection of suppliers of reagents and consumables.
- To provide advice on the evaluation and selection of suppliers of referral/back-up laboratories.
- To provide advice to users of the laboratory on: choices of tests; sample requirements; use of request form; sample transportation; interpretation of results and use of the laboratory information system.
- To undertake any other duty as may be required of nominated representative for the accrediting body.
- To undertake any other duty as may be assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, or the designee.
Academic and Professional Qualifications for the Position
- Degree or advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
- Must be registration with the KMLTTB and have a valid practicing license
- Over 3 years in a similar position will be an added advantage
- Training on ISO 15189 internal auditing
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office Packages)
- Previous experience in quality assurance will be an added advantage

3. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST (3 Post)
Position Summary
Reporting to the in Charge, Laboratory, the Medical Laboratory Technologist will ensure provision of effective, efficient, quality laboratory analytical services in the PCEA Chogoria Hospital’s Laboratory.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Carrying out blood grouping
- Storing blood products according to their requirements
- Screening blood for transfusion
- Preparing blood products for safe custody or use
- Decontaminating working benches
- Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimen for accuracy
- Preparing clients for collection of specimen
- Receiving, collecting, labeling and registering specimen
- Disaggregating specimens for processing and analysis
- Examining specimen
- Writing and recording of results
- Dispatching laboratory results for use in clinical management
- Preparing stains
- Recruiting, preparing and bleeding of blood donors for transfusion services
- Applying quality control on working reagents to ensure conformity with the set standards
- Heamovigilance
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Required Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or any other equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
- Must be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory and Technologist Board & have a valid practice license
- Certificate of computer application skills from a recognized institution
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
