Manager, Institutional Relations Africa

Responsibilities: 

  • Proactively identify new funding resources consistent with the organization’s revenue goals for restricted funding and strategic priorities, in close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Institutional Relations and Regional Leads;
  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues globally to coordinate, write, adapt and edit high impact proposals and concept notes to institutional funders for field projects in Rainforest Alliance’s focal geographies in Africa;
  • Manage selected proposal development processes, including development of workplans, budgets, and coordination and participation in technical design as needed;
  • Serve as a internal key point of contact in Africa, liaising with the Institutional Relations team, and the Program staff in the region, on a day-to-day basis;
  • Serve as a point of contact between Rainforest Alliance and key institutional donors in Africa, representing the organization through in-person meetings, phone calls, and written communications to advance funding opportunities;
  • Coordinate closely with Institutional Relations team, as well as program staff throughout African countries, to ensure effective alignment of fundraising strategies with country strategies and successful execution of donor cultivation strategies and engagement plans;
  • Work in close collaboration with regional managers to identify private sector opportunities and follow through on the elaboration of proposals;
  • Manage fundraising data for the Africa Program by ensuring it is up to date and accurate within database, and produce monthly reports;
  • Co-develop high-quality reports for selected institutional donors, ensuring consistency with donor requirements;
  • Build awareness by representing Rainforest Alliance at relevant conferences and events; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from Business Administration, Social Study or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience (BSc) or minimum of five years (MSc) in institutional fundraising;
  • Knowledge of natural resource management and/or agriculture commodity production or trade and/or development themes in the region is strongly preferred;
  • Must have excellent English writing skills and be able to create content for different audiences. Fluency in French is preferred;
  • Ability to create excellent written content for a variety different audiences;
  • Experience working with budgets and financial reports;
  • Ability to work regularly and collaboratively with colleagues who are based in different time zones;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member;
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills;
  • Able to work well under tight deadlines and with colleagues in different time zones;
  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment, preferably within a global organization;
  • Strong research and computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, project management systems);
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar databases preferred; and
  • Willingness and availability to travel up to 20% of time

Assistant General Counsel

Purpose

  • Effectively ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure; and
  • Advise corporate and affiliate boards and representatives, and departments/staff, solicited and unsolicited, in all legal areas including (international) employment law, contract law, corporate law, civil law, data privacy, intellectual property, disputes and international human rights law.

Engagement

  • Responsible for all regional contract law matters including drafting, negotiating and interpreting agreements including consultancy, employment, grant, lease, services, license, vendor, and other contracts;
  • Responsible for advising on employment and labor law issues for the Africa region;
  • Responsible for corporate governance matters for RA entities and branches in the Africa region;
  • Assist the Legal, Global Internal Compliance, and HR departments with drafting policies and training staff;
  • Collaborate and coordinate with external legal advisors/specialists/company secretaries;
  • Manage the selection, oversight, vetting and engagement of outside counsel and/or specialist (including tax) advisors;

  • Being overall responsible for supporting Africa regional directors and staff with day-to-day legal advice;
  • Review French translations of policies for accuracy;
  • Assist in global management of trademark and other intellectual property portfolio including disputes, registrations and licensing;
  • Assist the office of the General Counsel with ongoing projects as assigned;
  • Support risk management and compliance efforts across the organization; and
  • Other projects and activities as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Qualification to practice law in any of Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya or Democratic Republic of Congo;
  • 6+ years law firm and in-house experience
  • Familiarity with general corporate law in Africa region;
  • Experience with local government laws and regulations related to contracts/grants;
  • Experience in anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies and rules;
  • An affinity towards sustainable and corporate social responsibility;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills in English and French required; and
  • Excellent intercultural skills.

Product Manager, LandScale

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and reach decisions and solutions underpinned by consultation, evidence, and solid documentation;

Programme Officer, LandScale – Africa

Technical support to LandScale users

  • In coordination with the Operations Manager, deliver technical support, training, and validation services to LandScale users;
  • Coordinate the development, signing and payment of proposals and service agreements and ensure that up-to-date records are maintained for each user;
  • Contribute to the development and updating of training materials and other program delivery resources;
  • Collect, document, and analyse feedback from users and prospective users of the LandScale system;
  • Support the LandScale Operations manager in developing updates to the LandScale framework, guidelines, validation mechanism and assessment resources as needed;
  • Support the management of LandScale’s online Community of Practice to foster useful knowledge exchange and learning among LandScale users;

Business development

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, agriculture, natural resources, environmental management, international development, economics, or a related field;
  • At least three years of progressively responsible professional experience, preferably with experience in the delivery of sustainability programs or initiatives;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and relationships in a time sensitive manner;
  • Broad understanding of key environmental and socio-economic impact assessment, datasets, analytical tools, and methods;
  • Experience delivering clear and engaging virtual and in-person training;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals in a largely remote setting;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in French is required for the position based in Ghana, Kenya or South Africa.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally, as required;
