Director of Solar Water Farm Operations

Job Summary

  • The Director of Solar Water Farm Operations (DSSO) is responsible for the overall success of the SWF program in Kenya by developing and planning effective strategies to improve the overall operation of SWF including attracting and developing great Senior Site Managers (SSMs) and Site level leaders, ensuring strict compliance with the company’s operational standards, improving productivity, customer experience, sales and profitability at all SWF’s.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day business and administrative operations of SWFs ensuring that they meet all established KPIs, metrics and compliance requirements.
  • Lead the regional team (Senior Site Managers) to achieve operational and financial success.
  • Manage procurement functions and inventory levels in conjunction with the O&M team to organizational targets.
  • Supervise market validation team survey work and provide insights to leadership as part of new site development.
  • Enforce GivePower’s operational and standards (SOPs) across all SWFs.
  • Develop and execute on business plans and strategies that ensure achievement of company forecasts and goals.
  • Monitor, report on, and audit, as required, all cash reconciliation reports for water sales.
  • Drive continuous improvement of performance across all established KPIs and metrics.
  • Ensure that all reporting and control procedures in the area of operational compliance, cash compliance, assets, facilities, equipment, customer service, management control, production, hygiene, safety, maintenance and general administration are in place and are completed in accordance with company’s policy and procedures.
  • Develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure SWFs have all the resources required to meet their objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • Meet / Exceed annual P&L objectives by demonstrating achievement of both top-line sales and cost management targets.
  • Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, retention and bench strength for next-level positions through leadership, coaching, counseling and mentoring.
  • Ensure strong communication across teams and sites, and adherence to organizational best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Protect GivePower from any liability in the country and ensure legal compliance.

Qualification and Requirements

  • University degree level qualification.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili
  • Extensive experience in a multi-unit management role preferably in operations, quick service retail or similar environment with accountability for sales, profit, operations and people.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, budgeting and P&L management
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management
  • A proven history of personal integrity, high-energy, hard-working, self-motivated, positive attitude, customer-obsessed, generous yet firm with others
  • Strong ability to communicate with people effectively and confidently at all levels
  • Problem-solving skills that enable proactive identification and resolution of issues

Procurement Officer

JOB SUMMARY

  • We are looking for a passionate, energetic self-starter who will work closely with the GivePower team to minimize costs while maximizing product component performance and reliability. As the Procurement Officer, you will spearhead the purchasing process from selecting suppliers to ensuring stock optimization, as well as provide guidance on sourcing and procurement processes. You will be responsible for managing the purchase of all goods and services as required by the company ensuring they are on time and keeping accurate track of inventory items. You will provide the structure, organization, and strategy for all purchasing including assuming responsibility for coordinating & overseeing RMAs, warranty, and local shipping arrangements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the procurement of all goods and services as required by GivePower Kenya.
  • Assist with the implementation of a purchasing and inventory management system that is inventive and cost effective.
  • Coordinate with regional managers, site teams, O&M and leadership to establish BOMs and issue purchase orders for all new site launches.
  • Work with the US-based assembly warehouse to establish a unified part numbering system
  • Work closely with O&M, US assembly warehouse, project and site teams to ensure all parts are in stock when they are needed to minimize site downtime.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms and positive long-term relationships.
  • Issue purchase orders, blanket orders, track deliveries and receivables, and coordinate vendor payments with finance
  • Create part numbers, identify vendors, pricing and lead times, and recommend min/max inventory quantities for all parts.
  • Verify accurate inventory tracking and management for all goods in Kenya
  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance, engineering and site teams to ensure coordination on components purchasing.
  • Develop and communicate delivery schedules with key vendors based on user department goals
  • Identify and propose cost saving measures, including identifying alternate vendors, negotiating favorable pricing, and proposing alternate equivalent products to user departments.
  • Identify best available channels and partners for the delivery of goods and services to minimize transportation costs
  • Coordinate RMAs & warranty repairs with vendors, including collecting the failed components for return to the vendor, if required.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Diploma in Procurement/Purchasing/Supply Chain Management or related field or relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain role
  • Membership in a professional organization (such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) will be an added advantage.
  • Experience with 5S and Kaizen a plus
  • Deep familiarity with typical purchase agreements and important clauses
  • Strong track record for providing timely solutions and deliverables
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Thrives in a dynamic environment, natural problem solver

  • Experience working with multiple teams
