Field Facilitator – Food Security and Nutrition

Job Summary

  • To work with other THCHD programs in serving Christ by facilitating change through facilitating the communities on food security and nutrition so that the communities may take the lead in the implementation process as their capacities are built to address food security and nutrition issues among their households.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold THCHD’s mission statement by facilitating change in the target communities.
  • Facilitate the communities/THCHD staff for mindset change through interaction with participatory tools people owned processes (POP)
  • Mobilize communities for program activities.
  • Participate in building the capacities of the communities to engage in own development processes.
  • Make follow ups/systematic visits to target communities.
  • Facilitate the communities to assess and document their activities’ progress/outcomes.
  • Induct staff on attachment on the Food Security and Nutrition program.
  • Facilitate organizational development within the program area.
  • To network and collaborate with the relevant government departments/ministries and other stakeholders
  • To ensure proper maintenance of assigned equipment
  • To do any other duty assigned

  • Supervision received from Program Team Leader and Director
  • Supervision given to Program target groups.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in social work/Community Health and Development
  • Diploma /Certificate in Agriculture – preferably organic farming
  • Theological Training.
  • 3 Years Experience in Community and Development work

Trainer, Tenwek Hospital College

Job Summary

  • Tenwek Hospital College is fully accredited by TVETA and offers approved curricula from various professional bodies in Kenya. It is owned by Tenwek Hospital. The School of Chaplaincy is one of the schools within this college which seeks to equip Christian workers with specialized training and spiritual support to function as chaplains in all multi-faith settings (Universities, Colleges, Schools, Hospitals, prisons, Rehabilitation centers, Police, Defense Forces, Sports etc) thus opening doors for the Gospel ministry of Jesus Christ.
  • The role of the Trainer is to train Chaplain Students to be physically, spiritually, professionally, and personally be the best they can be, to the glory of God.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Trainer responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Teach assigned courses/units as per the Chaplaincy curriculum as assessed by CDAAC.
  • Prepare all assessment tools for courses/units taught in each Trimester.
  • Assess and evaluate students instructed during the trimester as guided by the examining body.
  • Provide necessary support for all students assigned in practical ministry and industrial attachment to be successful in completing assigned criteria during each placement.

Education and experience

  • At least a Degree in Chaplaincy, Theology, Business, Counselling or related field.
  • A trained teacher or possesses pedagogy certification.
  • Registered by TVETA and CDACC.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in ministerial training.
  • Experience in chaplaincy ministry in any context is an added advantage.

Skills

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Director Medical Services through the Head of Clinical Services, the Dental Officer exists to provide dental services to patients in the hospital; ensure provision of quality and timely dental services, quality patient care and dental counselling at Tenwek Hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct dental outpatient clinics in line with the hospital schedules and attend to both walkin and referred patients.
  • Attend to all patients who require dentist’s review within hospital standard operating procedures, national and international guidelines.

Medical Officer, Cardiothoracic Department

Role Summary:

  • Reporting to the cardiothoracic surgery program director, the Medical Officer’s job exists to provide general medical services to patients in the hospital; ensure the provision of quality and timely medical services, quality patient care and medical counselling at Tenwek Hospital

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for conducting a comprehensive pre-operative assessment of the patient’s medical history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests, and ruling out any underlying conditions that may impact the surgery and post-operative outcomes in consultation with cardiothoracic surgery fellows and consultants.
  • Provide Surgical assistance/procedures under appropriate supervision and also work alongside the cardiothoracic surgeon, and cardiothoracic fellow assisting with surgical procedures such as opening the chest, placing drains, and suturing.
  • Be responsible for monitoring the patient’s recovery and progress, hemodynamic monitoring, inotrope titration, bedside echocardiographic assessment, fluid management, initiation and conducting of CPR, managing pain and medications, and addressing any complications that may arise.
  • Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment options, treatment adherence, and post-operative care instructions and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals including nurses, anesthesiologists, physiotherapists, colleagues from other departments, and respiratory therapists, to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting the cardiothoracic surgery patient’s progress, and communicating with other healthcare professionals involved in the patient’s care.
  • Be involved in ongoing research and professional development activities, on-job training, lectures, and CMEs to stay current with new medical advancements and techniques in cardiothoracic surgery
  • Part of Outreach activities that is being undertaken by the department.
  • Response during emergency and mass casualty while within the hospital at all times when needed.
  • Any other assigned duty that may be given from time to time.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Must have a Certificate in basic life support and Advanced Cardiac life support
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
  • Valid Practice License.
  • At least one year working experience in medical practice in a busy health facility.

Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist (OB-GYN)

Job Summary

  • The job holder will be expected to provide quality Obstetrics and Gynaecology services to both outpatients and inpatients; and assist in ensuring smooth operations in the clinical department and contribute positively to Tenwek Hospital strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and providing appropriate medical and surgical care to patients.
  • Managing of clients for reproductive health both in the inpatient and outpatient.

  • Carrying out specific procedures, e.g., performing operations and specialist investigations.

Minimum Requirements.

  • Masters in Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized institution.
  • Specialist Recognition by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Board.
  • Registered, licenced, and retained by the Kenya Medical Practitioners Board.
  • Fellow of the College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of East, Central, Southern Africa (FCOGECSA)
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
