Performance Management Manager

About the role

BURN is looking for a Performance Management Manager who will work closely with the Chief Talent and Happiness officer and the senior management team to establish a clear description of each employee’s role.

They will be responsible for setting performance goals and updating them when needed. They will also be tasked with identifying, reporting, and resolving workplace or personal barriers to performance. Apart from working with individual employees, they may lead, develop, and inspire teams to work together toward achieving personal and company objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Define performance standards:

  • Defining the performance standards and indicators that will be used to measure and evaluate the performance of employees, teams, and the organization as a whole. These standards should be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. They should also be aligned with BURN’s vision, mission, values, and strategy.
  • Communicate the performance standards clearly and consistently to all stakeholders and ensure that they are understood and accepted.

Plan performance objectives:

  • Plan the performance objectives and targets for each employee, team, and the organization as a whole. These objectives should be SMART, aligned with the performance standards, and reflect the expectations and needs of the stakeholders.
  • Involve the employees and teams in setting their objectives, and provide them with the necessary resources, support, and guidance to achieve them.
  • Document the performance objectives and track their progress.

Monitor performance results:

  • Monitor the performance results of each employee, team, and the organization as a whole by collecting, analyzing, and reporting on the performance data and indicators, and comparing them with the performance standards and objectives.
  • Use various methods and tools to monitor performance, such as dashboards, reports, surveys, feedback forms, observations, interviews, and audits.
  • Identify and address any performance gaps, issues or risks that may arise.

Review performance outcomes:

  • Conduct regular and timely performance reviews and appraisals and provide constructive and objective feedback to the employees and teams.
  • Use the performance results, indicators, and data to evaluate the performance achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement of the employees, teams and the organization.
  • Recognize and reward the performance successes and contributions of the employees and teams.

Improve performance quality:

  • Identify and implement performance improvement actions, initiatives and plans that will enhance performance results, outcomes, and standards.
  • Use performance feedback, data, and indicators to diagnose the performance problems, root causes and solutions.
  • Promote and facilitate the performance learning and development of the employees and teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Manage performance stakeholders:

  • Manage the performance stakeholders of each employee, team, and the organization as a whole. These stakeholders include the managers, leaders, peers, customers, partners, suppliers, regulators, and others who have an interest or influence on the performance of the organization.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the performance stakeholders effectively and efficiently, and ensure that they are informed, engaged and satisfied with the performance management process and system.

Skills and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, management, or a related field is required.
  • 5- 7 years of experience in performance management, human resources, or related areas is often required.
  • Familiarity with various performance management systems and tools. This includes understanding how to implement and manage performance appraisal processes, goal setting, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Strong leadership and management skills are crucial for overseeing a team and driving performance improvement initiatives.

Learning and Development Manager

About the role

BURN is looking for a learning and development manager who will be responsible for the training and professional development of BURN’s employees. The purpose is to make the most out of our employees’ talents and help them develop to their full potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, customize, and maintain content to achieve business goals.
  • Conceptualize and design behavioural programs across levels of employees, leadership building by calendarizing regular soft-skills sessions and management training.
  • Work with line Managers across the team to determine areas of focus, gaps and upskilling and reskilling areas required by the business teams. Help managers develop their team members through career pathing.
  • Implement and suggest an effective L&D communication plan and strategy to manage participants’ lifecycle (registration, cancellation, logistics and database management)

Government Relations Lead

About the Role:

BURN is looking for a Government Relations and communications Lead who will be responsible for developing and executing effective government relations that represent the organization’s business plans and interests.  

Candidates will show a good understanding of the policy environment and political processes in East Africa. Ideally, candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills as well as a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  

He/ She will work closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs and Head of Communications to create messaging that enhances the company’s brand, supports the policy team initiatives manages crisis communication, and ensures that all external communication is aligned with the organization’s goals and values. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute government affairs and corporate communication strategies. 
  • Monitor the political environment and disseminate relevant information to Country Managers and Director of Corporate Affairs. 
  • Assists senior management and leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry. 
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of regional, national and local government entities and agencies. 
  • Joins trade associations and industry committees and seeks leadership roles. 
  • Collaborates with industry advocates to build areas of common interest. 
  • Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations. 
  • Organising engagements with government, strategic partners and key opinion leaders as needed

About the Role:

BURN is seeking a skilled and experienced Data Engineer or Data Pipeline System Designer to develop & deploy the articulated solution. The role involves designing and deploying an end-to-end data pipeline system that centralizes data from various sources and enables data professionals to easily query the data. Additionally, the system should allow users to easily pull up all relevant information for a product and customer using a consumer-friendly user interface.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy an end-to-end data pipeline system that centralizes and processes large volumes of structured and unstructured data from various sources.
  • Develop user-friendly interfaces that enable users to easily pull up relevant information for a product and customer.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and design data solutions that meet their needs.
  • Design and implement efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to populate the pipeline with data from various sources.
  • Build and maintain robust data pipelines that ensure data is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data schemas, and data dictionaries.
  • Use APIs, batch exports, and SQL queries to extract data from various sources and integrate it into a SQL database.
  • Perform data cleaning, data transformation, and data integration tasks to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to ensure data is processed and analyzed effectively.
  • Monitor and optimize data pipelines to ensure they are performing efficiently.

Success for the role will be measured by delivering within the first few months of the following,

  • Successful deployment of the end-to-end data pipeline system, including system implementation, ETL processes, and data handling capabilities within the first few months.
  • Data accessibility and usability are measured by ease of use of user-friendly interfaces and speed of accessing relevant information.
  • Data quality and consistency are monitored through data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity.
  • Collaboration and stakeholder satisfaction are measured by feedback from stakeholders on the effectiveness of data solutions and maintaining positive working relationships.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in designing and deploying end-to-end data pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, ETL tools, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience working with APIs, batch exports, and SQL queries to extract data from various sources.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics, open-source data systems like KOBO, and Call Center platforms would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
