About the Department

Deloitte’s Audit service offering utilizes a comprehensive methodology designed to bring our extensive professional and technical resources to audit engagements in an efficient, and cost-effective manner. In our audit process, we combine a rigorous risk and needs analysis, diagnostic processes, and a client service assessment structured to provide our clients with a superior audit clearly focused on them. The Financial Institution Services Team provides a complete range of audit, actuarial and specialist advisory services to leading organisations in the banking, insurance, securities and funds industries.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our Financial Institution Services Team – Actuarial as an Actuarial Consultant. This position will be based in our Nairobi office in Kenya.

Job Description

Main purpose of the job

The successful candidate will support the Actuarial and Audit function by providing actuarial services to assigned clients spanning across banking, insurance, securities and funds industries.

What you will do

  • Provide actuarial advisory and audit services to an array of clients in life/general insurance and the wider fields such as banking;
  • Develop a thorough understanding of IFRS 17, and support implementation projects for our clients;
  • Support the development of project proposals and thought leadership initiatives;
  • Share expertise and knowledge with team members on an ongoing basis;
  • Provide actuarial models capacity building and analytical solutions for clients; and
  • Perform actuarial valuations for life insurance and/or general insurance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelors Degree in Actuarial Science.
  • At least 3 professional exams from either SOA, IFOA or any other recognized actuarial body.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Open to local and international assignments.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn new concepts.
  • Exposure and experience in IFRS 17 implementations will be an added advantage.
  • Well-developed actuarial programming skills (VBA, R and/ or Prophet will be an added advantage.

Global Employer Services (GES) Manager

Job Description

Main purpose of the job

Deloitte East Africa currently has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join our Tax & Legal team as a Global Employer Services (GES) Manager. The holder of this position will be responsible for ensuring that all assignments are carried out to the highest standards in order to provide outstanding value to clients and the Firm.

What you will do

  • Manage the allocated client portfolio;
  • Ensure preparation of proposals and engagement letters, ensuring client take on procedures are completed timely;
  • Manage the team to ensure client deliverables and deadlines are met;
  • Manage working capital and debtors for own client portfolio;
  • Effectively manage all routine compliance and advisory engagements in a timely manner;
  • Responsible for business development activities aimed at growing the GES portfolio and revenues;
  • Manage and execute all global compliance assignments;
  • Oversee the annual Individual tax compliance for clients and ensure that the process is managed well and deadlines are met; liaise with clients to provide the necessary documentation, preparation of the individual tax computations and tax returns as well as filing of the tax returns within set deadlines;
  • Manage client communications;
  • Train and coach (classroom and on-job) other staff in the department; and
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in Business/Commerce or related field.
  • At least 6 years’ professional tax experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience post-qualification with an international auditing/accountancy Firm.
  • In depth knowledge/understanding of the Kenyan tax laws.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organization and planning skills.

Risk & Independence Manager

Job Description

Main purpose of the job

The successful candidate will provide support to the Firm on internal risk & independence matters by building networks and relations with relevant regional and global functions and regional regulators/professional bodies, monitor and interpret changes in risk & independence policies globally and in the region and advice on implications to the Firm.

  • Manage and oversee risk & independence related projects and tasks;
  • Build relationships with the Firm’s key regulators and professional bodies;
  • Collaborate with the Africa Risk & Independence team on global initiatives;
  • Keep abreast with technical developments in the profession and country, in order to anticipate client needs, and offer value added and practical business solutions;
  • Leverage knowledge and contribute to proper knowledge management within the department;
  • Identify key strategic gaps in the business and provide solutions;
  • Manage the implementation of strategic imperatives in line within the Risk, Independence and Legal Department strategy;

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting & Finance, Economics or Actuarial Science from a recognized university.
  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience in the service industry.
  • CPA or ACCA qualification is an added advantage.
  • Experience in a professional services firm and experience in risk management & compliance is an added advantage.
  • Be a Kenyan citizen or eligible to work in Kenya.
