IREX’s Girls’ Learning Through Technology (GLTT) project in Kenya seeks to identify the utility of technology approaches to support girls’ education and development of ICT skills in low-tech schools through evidence-based practices and research. GLTT will support approximately 2,400 Grade 4 girls in rural areas of Kilifi County to stay enrolled in education, improve the quality of their learning, and develop digital literacy skills that can be applied to all core subjects as well as in their lives as they pursue their education and career goals.

The Program Officer will support the impactful growth of the GLTT Program in Kilifi County for 10 months by supporting the Project Director. They will be responsible for capacity-building for educators, teachers, and school leaders in Kilifi County, and help oversee the research component of GLTT, including data collection and components of data analysis.

Your Background & Skills 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Sociology, Business Management, or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in administration and program management.
  • Previous working experience with the education sector in Kenya.
  • Previous experience with measurement and evaluation and/or research.
  • Working knowledge of early childhood development and/or child/youth digital programs.
  • Experience working with marginalized youth
  • Experience with research
  • Experience working with educators
  • Experience with data management
  • Experience with program startup
  • In-depth knowledge of program management and development procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Your Daily Tasks 

  • Supports communications with funding partner, MOE, KICD, and TSC on behalf of the GLTT program.
  • Manage the development and distribution of program reports for the funding organizations and managing report tracking for sub awardees.
  • Supports the GLTT project with responsibility for the development and execution of project outcomes and work products, including but not limited to program timelines, budgets, reports, and other products as identified.
  • Assists with overall technical quality and impact of the GLTT project.
  • Responsible for the contributing, creating, and guiding the work associated with key project outputs; to include, but not limited to, gathering, drafting, and creating workflow plans, budgets, internal/external reports, presentations, training materials, research tools and other documents/deliverables as identified.
  • Communicate proactively with staff members and supervisor on project development.
  • In collaboration with the Project Director, drive improvements in our internal and external reporting through development of the content, designing and distributing the reports in line with our communication and advocacy strategy.
  • Supports communications with funding partner, MOE, KICD, and TSC on behalf of the GLTT program.
  • Manage the development and distribution of program reports for the funding organizations and managing report tracking for sub awardees.
  • Oversees financial management of a GLTT in Kenya and ensures compliance with IREX financial and procurement policies.
  • Partner with team members to co-create solutions, solve problems, and devise actions.
  • Take ownership of the decisions and actions
  • Support the Program Director in organizing and planning for events and regularly scheduled staff, partner and community workshops to strengthen learning, networking, communication and reporting across the board.
