Community Mobilizer- THRIVE Project

Key Responsibilities
Project planning and implementation

  • Coordinate effective and timely implementation of all interventions outlined under Local Value Chain development and any other related and cross cutting programme activities in the project.
  • Participate in the preparation of overall work plan and budget as well as develop activity plans and budgets for technical support of local value chain development interventions
  • Participate in developing different levels of progress report (weekly updates, situational reports, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports)
  • Supporting Project Quality Assurance (PQA) through organizing and supporting monitoring visits on L&R interventions.
  • Collaborate with relevant ministries and other relevant partners at the County and community levels to ensure integration and high level implementation the planned Local Value Chain activities
  • Work closely with relevant authorities to ensure all economic recovery and market systems interventions deployed in the communities are in alignment with L&R in emergency Standards
  • Work together with other staff/ to ensure that key trainings meets the standard required to facilitate, provide knowledge and reinforcement of desired L&R behaviour and practices.
  • Ensure that business processes, standards and guidelines related to Livelihood & resilience initiatives are effectively applied in project implementation.
  • Make technical input into the planning and design of project specific operational researches, including baseline and end line evaluation, post distribution monitoring related to L&R.
  • Conduct continuous activity and budget analysis to ensure adherence to the approved work, budget and procurement plans.
  • Successful and timely implementation of Economic Recovery and market systems sub-Sector activities
  • Budget utilization to acceptable thresholds

Technical support

  • Work with communities and relevant stakeholders to identify key on-farm and off farm value chains to support
  • Support project market research on viable value chains
  • Ensure the target communities are mobilized and participate in the identified Local Value Chain Interventions
  • In consultation with other staff, government and partners sensitize and mobilize the communities to form Project Implementation units, producer groups
  • Support produce aggregation and marketing activities of the project
  • Work with Project Officer, local stakeholders and leaders to identify community champions/resource persons for LVCD, Empowered World View and Digitization of farmer records
  • In consultation with other staff develop capacity assessment tools for producer groups and develop a capacity development plan
  • Facilitate the capacity building of the partners and farmer groups on LVCD activities (Climate Smart Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, post-harvest management and value addition, transformational leadership)
  • Facilitate linkages of the savings groups to FAST product to enhance their performance
  • Ensure cross cutting themes are integrated into LVCD interventions
  • Provide technical support and timely feedback to the Project Manager on the LVCD interventions outlined in the THRIVE project.
  • Organize meetings with key local value chain actors and farmers to forge effective support of the LVCD interventions
  • Ensure adult and child safeguarding during the implementation of the planned interventions
  • Effective and quality implementation of planned activities
  • Adequate skills available for implementation and sustainability of the projects

Quality assurance -Monitoring, Reporting, evaluation and Documentation

  • Ensure the community champions (LVCD, EWV and S4T) have necessary monitoring tools and are trained on the same
  • Develop project monitoring and reporting schedules in collaboration with the various stakeholders
  • Work with the community champions/facilitators to continuously train, monitor and mentor the performance of producer groups along identified value chains
  • Clean and Collate project performance data and ensure it is keyed into the relevant Monitoring Information System (MIS) on a monthly basis
  • Prepare weekly updates, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual progress reports
  • Documentation of key lessons learnt and successes stories from the target farmers
  • Continuously track progress of planned activities and outputs in the detailed implementation plan to ensure timely and quality implementation of plans
  • Support Monitoring and evaluation of THRIVE activities in coordination with M&E and relevant stakeholders.
  • Support farmer records digitization process and performance tracking in collaboration with community resource persons and relevant private actors
  • Together with farmers, partners, conduct regular reflection and learning events
  • Support the project data collection during baseline, end line, market assessments and post distribution assessments

  • Strengthen partnerships with the county government and other partners for effective support and capacity development of the farmers for sustainability

Key Responsibilities

Ensuring Strategy development and execution

  • Provide strategic guidance and support to the senior leadership team in the alignment and execution of the National Office Strategy and business plans with Our Promise strategy.Develop and implement the People and Culture (P&C) strategy and business plan in support of and in alignment with country, regional and global strategic priorities.Spearhead the monitoring and reporting of People & Culture strategy metrics related to talent acquisition, development, retention, performance management, employee engagement and organizational leadership.

Regional Director, VisionFund International

  • As part of the role, the Regional Director will be supporting the Business Lines (i.e. FAST, Insurance, Partnerships) with their business plans in the assigned countries. the primary point of contact with WV at a sub-regional level.  Where appropriate this includes taking part in WV senior leadership meetings for the cluster of countries assigned.
  • The position ensures that VFI and WVI global strategies are being implemented at each MFI. The Regional Director will supervise 3-5 MFIs as MFI Board member and have direct line -management of the MFI CEOs with Board Chair. 

Major Responsibilities

Management of French-speaking MFIs in Africa

  • Supervise jointly with the MFI board the MFI CEOs.
  • Sit on MFI boards to represent VFI and to ensure effective two-way communication and ensure each is well-operating boards and in compliance with local laws, regulatory requirements and WV/VFI policies, procedures and directives.
  • Provide leadership that ensures impact on children remains the overall result of our work by driving common mindset to all MFI staff and evidenced through Impact reports.
  • Provide oversight on the development and delivery of the strategic and business plans inclusive of digital, technology and product areas (lending, savings, FAST, insurance and training/education).
  • Monitor performance across the MFI, analyse, problem identification and provide recommendations that will ensure improved quality of delivery of financial services, improved control environment and increased alignment of strategy.
  • Ensure quality of portfolio and provide direction, advise and guidance to ensure that this is maintained.
  • Work with the management of each MFI to ensure risk management framework, compliance culture, and compliance reporting (regulatory, lender and VFI) are operating well inclusive of GC safeguarding, security, risk and audit efforts.
  • Act in a Management capacity within an MFI during senior management where gaps will significantly impact the performance of the MFI or place MFI at risk. 
  • Ensure that each MFI has access to adequate, timely and appropriate support from GC various departments.
  • Provide direction, management and/or advise on startups, closedowns or crisis management of MFIs.

Management of MFI resources 

  • Work with VFI Finance, Fundraising and Capital Markets to secure equity and debt funding for MFIs, particularly for high priority MFIs, 
  • Work with the Support Centre Director to obtain resources and technical assistance for MFIs according to a programme of work

Manage Integration with WV and support the Business Lines

  • Strengthen the understanding in WV within each MFI of the benefits of microfinance in contributing to Economic Development, livelihoods and Child Well-Being Outcomes (CWBO).
  • Development of best practices in integration, monitoring performance against indicators.
  • Building collaborative relationships at all levels to participate in ENOUGH, THRIVE, and other programs as well as grants, response plans and other priority projects across each MFI.
  • Support the Business Lines with the delivery of the business plans in the assigned countries.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Required Professional Experience

  • A minimum of a university degree  in in Finance, Business, Economics, ICT, Engineering or equivalent level of knowledge demonstrated through relevant experience.
  • Significant leadership experience (minimum of 15 years) largely in a microfinance, banking, and/or finance environment, including a proven track record of managing people in a global, matrix-managed organisation (including mentoring, directing, building capacity)
  • 10+ years’ experience managing people at a senior level
  • Experience delivering digital transformation (especially core banking systems and digital solutions)
  • Experience working in a multinational and multicultural environment with proven cross-cultural effectiveness
  • Proven ability for spotting improvement opportunities and making those happen in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Previous experience of at least 2 years in a role similar to the CEO, COO or CFO in a microfinance, banking and/or financial institution.
  • At least 1 year experience participating as member of a Board of Directors or as an active member of a committee.

K-SEED Advocacy Project Officer

Key Responsibilities:

Policy and Legislative Engagement in Kajiado and Narok Counties (50%)

  • Annual Review and Analysis relevant policy and legal frameworks in Kajiado and Narok Counties with a focus on Environment, Natural Resource Management and Climate ChangeCoordinate evidence-based engagement with the County Executive and in Kajiado and Narok Counties on policy and legislative issues, including public planning and budgeting, with a focus on Environment, Natural Resource Management and Climate Change. Project Officer-Livelihood and Resilience

Key Responsibilities:

Effective Project Design, Planning and Implementation

  • Facilitate adoption of best practice/approaches/models in the course of the implementation of the Agriculture & Food Security (AFS) and ED components of the The Kenya BIG DREAM project
  • Ensure that business processes, standards and guidelines related to AFS & ED initiatives are effectively applied in project implementation and monitoring
  • Participate in the preparation of overall work plan and budget for AFS & ED activities for the specific County.
  • Develop activity plans and budgets for technical support activities related to AFS & ED component of the project.
  • Collaborate with relevant ward, sub county and County government ministries and partners at the Ward/sub county/County and community levels to ensure integration and high level implementation of all AFS & ED activities.
  • Make technical input into the planning and design of project specific operational researches, including baseline and end line evaluation related to AFS & ED outcomes.
  • Work closely with the Project manager and other program staff in identification of existing gaps in AFS & ED and Environment sectors of the project
  • Facilitate adoption of best practice/approaches/models in the course of the implementation of the project
  • Work closely with relevant authorities to ensure all L&R interventions deployed in the communities are in alignment with L&R Standards.
  • Work together with other staff to ensure that key trainings meet the standards required to facilitate, provide knowledge and reinforcement of desired L&R behaviour and practices.
  • Be able to systemically review DIP/budget and other key implementation tools and initiate innovative approaches that will open new frontiers for L&R in the area of operation

Quality Assurance – Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation

  • Support M&E role of L&R activities in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and timely feedback to the Project Manager on L&R interventions outlined in the The Kenya BIG DREAM project proposal.
  • Build capacity of field staff, project ToTs and partners (CBOs and Farmer groups) on Crop & Livestock production, Climate Smart Agriculture, S4T.
  • Identify other opportunities in an ongoing manner that will add value to the overarching goal of the program.

Enhanced Empowerment & Capacity building

  • Mobilize and sensitize community for empowerment & sustainability
  • Build capacity of communities and partners on integration for synergy & Community based monitoring for sustainability.
  • Establish specific capacity building for effective delivery & sustainability of project interventions
  • Build the capacity of partners (FBOs, CBOs, Farmers Groups) to enable them effectively intervene in food security & economic empowerment appropriately
  • Take a lead in building program staff and community capacities in food security & economic empowerment sector interventions through trainings and other information sharing avenues (field days, demonstrations) to handle project activities effectively
  • Together with partners, conduct regular extension service provision for participating groups and households
  • Mobilise, equip and empower the Church, other faith groups and Community based organization to integrate empowered World View in Livelihood interventions

Advocacy, Engagement, Networks & Partnerships

  • Gather and provide quality feedback and data to be used to develop technical papers and recommendations on key issues for external engagement with decision makers in respective counties
  • Establish and sustain working relationships with Government Departments and Agencies relevant to the The Kenya BIG DREAM project focus area at the Ward, Sub County and County levels
  • Ensure that Project participants and partners are kept informed of all the Government laws and policies in respect to the Technical aspects being implemented and any changes to government laws, policies and budgets
  • Work with partners and coalitions to engage in advocacy activities with the government structures at the Ward/County level, to address the needs of local communities and inform national level advocacy initiatives
  • Ensure effective mobilisation of community groups, youth and children, empowering them to hold their governments to account through utilization of advocacy approaches such as Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) and Child Protection Advocacy (CPA)
  • Support community groups, youth and children to engage constructively with duty bearers and service providers to improve access to, and quality of, essential services
  • Ensure representation of WV Kenya in key L&R stakeholder forum/meetings at the Ward, Sub-County and County levels.
  • Actively participate and contribute to County level technical working groups to inform policies/strategies relevant to L&R
  • Provide support to community led processes of monitoring public service delivery.

Resources Acquisition

  • Participate in development of timely and accurate funding proposals in line with donor requirements and WVK standards in collaboration with Project Manager and other sector specialists
  • Mobilize the community for community contribution for project interventions
  • Support development of technically sound funding concepts/proposals through provision of information & data and review in collaboration with Program Manager and other sector specialists.
  • Support successful donor visits as may be necessary.
  • Promote organizational visibility and branding within the project area and beyond.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Sciences/Agronomy/Horticulture/Agricultural Economics/Business Management or a closely related field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum three years of work experience in local value chains development, Savings for Transformation, Ultra-poor graduation and Building secure Livelihood project models, economic development, food security projects and other related sectors
  • Good understanding of gender and child protection mainstreaming in AFS and ED projects.
  • Ability to conduct community L&R needs assessment, project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of L&R interventions.
  • Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written).
  • A team player, capable of building staff and community capacity in L & R projects through training.
  • Ability to take initiative, a team leader able to work with minimum supervision
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and emotional maturity and ability to incarnate in the community
  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural and inter-faith contexts
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Lotus Notes (or another main email system such as Microsoft Outlook)
