International Expansion Director

The International Expansion Director is responsible for;

  • Take end-to-end ownership of the strategic and operational aspects of Poa’s international expansion.
  • Rapidly Develop a deep understanding of Poa’s operating model, business model, service delivery and USPs to determine product future market fit (Including how the model could be adapted to new ,markets).
  • Work directly with selected consultancy partner to build the market study, ensuring deadlines met.
  • Review the playbooks for countries shortlisted for the market entry, soliciting, summarising, and validating feedback from local subject matter experts.
  • Synthesise the understanding of Poa, consultant reports and a view “on-the-ground” practices /opportunities to make recommendations on countries for entry and sequencing of entry.
  • Co-create market entry playbook with selected consultancy for each selected country.
  • Forge relationships with prospective local partners, acquire licenses and sign strategic partnerships with existing / new partners in the shortlisted countries for all business-critical activities.
  • Drive operational deployment in selected countries including hiring of in-country leadership teams.
  • Balance top-down systematic multi-stakeholder approach to expansion with an up-to-date and broad bottom-up view of time sensitive opportunities ( E.g inorganic growth opportunities etc.)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Significant senior experience in a tech-enabled business, rolling out existing operations into new markets.
  • Experience operating with(in) a country rollout team, with a demonstratable understanding of the critical success factors for expansion/market entry, preferably having had a budgetary responsibility for rollouts.
  • A history of significant and consistent contribution of rapid large-scale growth of a multi-country business.
  • A track record of translating/synthesising broad brush business intent into specific and effective local rollout plans.
  • Experience designing and deploying a mixed insource/outsource partner model to optimise multi-country operational effectiveness/efficiency.
  • A deep and broad network across the Pan-African telecoms ecosystem.
  • A sincere passion for the positive impact Poa is having on the communities it serves.
  • A track record of building effective collaborative relationships across multiple business functions (customer experience, operations, procurement , legal etc.)
  • Gravitas and credibility when interacting with senior stakeholders , effectively representing Poa.
  • The demonstrated ability to effectively switch between vastly varying levels of details, manage large scale, multi-party projects and creatively identify specific market opportunities.

Head of Impact

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE:

  • Continue to develop and implement the Managing for Impact strategy and accompanying systems and tools that will identify and maximise the depth and breadth of impact on the lives of the poor from investments made by AECF.
  • Craft measurement frameworks that can be used for impact evaluations of their programmes specifically for both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Manage, coordinate, and execute the collection of impact data (past and present) from AECF’s programme teams, partner organizations, and stakeholders, providing support for timely, accurate, and consistent reporting.
  • Analyse, synthesize and produce key insights that that can easily inform multiple audiences across the institution (from Management to the AECF Board Members) via storytelling media and platforms.
  • Engage with programme teams to help them envision and embed creative methods for impact measurement into the solutions they’re delivering for their partners at the concept note, design, competition, and implementation phases.
  • Serve as the main point of contact to shape external evaluations and ensure alignment on impact metrics and methods used for gathering data.
  • Drive experimentation around data collection and analysis through new methodologies and tools
  • Manage a team of Impact officers and experts operating from diverse offices across the continent, in different programmes.

  • A master’s degree in international development, Economics, Mathematics, Communications or a related field.
  • 10+ Years of full-time work experience in research, impact measurement, and evaluation, preferably in private sector development context and applying DCED standards.
  • Experience working in international development and a deep understanding of the sector with a bias to agribusiness, renewable energy and climate adaptation, in Africa
  • Experience in survey methodology and monitoring social or environmental outcomes in a development context for private sector development.
  • Experience working with or reporting to large bilateral funders or private foundations and is comfortable speaking their language.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with a keen ability to synthesize and present complex data in a simple, compelling, meaningful way.
  • Proven experience working with and leading cross-cultural teams.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement. Language skills in French will be an added advantage.

Program Director

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE:

  • Ensure exceptional management of current programs/investments portfolio, and lead portfolio expansion – providing guidance and direction to the portfolio teams on sourcing, marking, due diligence, structuring and deployment of funding.
  • Lead the integration of AECF’s thematic areas of focus – climate, gender, youth and fragility – into the program delivery strategy and ensure delivery of impact in the said thematic areas.
  • Review and improve AECF’s portfolio construction approach, building rigorous processes and tools towards improving impact.
  • Continually ensure an effective portfolio construction approach and strategically lead the institution to evolve its portfolio construction model to best serve AECF’s purpose of an enterprising Africa.
  • Develop and implement portfolio risk framework, in line with the overall AECF Enterprise Risk and Compliance Management Framework.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Sector Team Leads, Programme Managers, Senior Program Officers and other investee-facing staff to ensure the best execution of the AECF Portfolio Management strategy.
  • Lead the development and dissemination of AECF periodic progress and impact reports.
  • Leverage expertise and networks to support fundraising and business development efforts of AECF. This includes contributing to proposal development and pitches to funding partners
  • Guide teams in implementation of agreed strategy and programmes, including enhancing coherence at team level.
  • Responsible for the effective flow of communication within the portfolio teams.

Communications Director

Based in Kenya or South Africa, the Director, Communications, Africa responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Create and execute a strategic communication plan tailored specifically for the African market, aligned with the goals and objectives of the Global Energy Alliance Africa particularly (though not exclusively) focusing on deep dive countries: DRC, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and South Africa, and priorities initiatives, including the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI).
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organisations, local communities, media outlets, industry influencers, and partner organisations.
  • Oversee media interactions in Africa and manage GEAPP’s Pan African PR Agency and others, develop and maintain relationships with journalists.
  • Create and oversee the development of compelling and impactful content across various channels including press releases, articles, op-eds, blog post, social media content, website materials and multimedia assets.
  • Position GEAPP Africa and its partners as a thought leader and trusted voice in the energy, climate and development sectors in Africa. Develop and promote key spokesperson within the organisation, facilitate editorial opportunities as well as speaking engagements, and contribute to relevant publications.
  • Support GEAPP’s monitoring evaluation and learning (MEL) work – ensuring data is integrated, insights and lessons learned into communications.
  • Planning, organising, and executing events with the wider team and agencies. Develop and implement crisis communication protocols and processes to effectively manage and respond to potential crisis communication protocols and processes.
  • Lead and manage a team of communications professionals, including agencies and consultants and facilitate connections into GEAPP’s wider communication team.

The desired candidate will have but not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in strategic communications with a focus on Africa and a strong understanding of the African media landscape, understanding of climate, energy and development a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and work effectively in a global, multicultural environment.

Chief Commercial Officer- Limuru

The Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Develop the group revenue budget per target and region for their B2C & B2B business lines.
  • Develop the medium  and long term go-to-market strategy including process of customer acquisition and developing strategic partnerships in line with the overall business strategy & revenue targets.

Desired skills and qualifications include:

  • Over 10 years’ experience of executive leadership experience, with previous commercials sales and marketing and P&L responsibility within the agribusiness sector , with strong experience in the fertiliser and precision farming.
  • In-depth knowledge of implementing commercial sales strategy in a related agri sector in Africa, in East, Southern & Francophone countries
  • Culturally agile, with the ability to build and manage international teams 
  • Experience in scaling laboratory and agronomy precision agri-services would be an advantage.
  • Passion for soil health, agronomy, and regenerative farming would be an advantage.
