General Manager, Research and Technology Transfer, KBI 2

Job Purpose:

The General Manager, Research and Technology Transfer Department shall provide overall leadership, accountability and is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategies and plans that will guarantee innovative research, product and technology transfer activities at the Institute to develop new products and improve on existing products within the institute. Additionally, the GM Research and Technology Transfer will develop innovative processes to promote product quality and scope in the local and regional pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.

Requirements:

  • A minimum period of twelve (12) years in relevant work experience and at least four (4) years in a management position in the public sector;
  • PhD in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical qualifications will provide an added advantage. Publication of at least five scientific papers in a peer reviewed Journal as the first author or 15 papers in co-authored articles;
  • Masters’ degree in any of the following disciplines: Life Sciences, biomedical sciences, Pharmaceutical or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, evaluation and release of new vaccines, and other products;
  • Coordinate technology transfer from partner companies or institutions to the Institute;
  • Collaborate with other local, regional and global research institutions and pharmaceutical companies in product development of new products and technologies;
  • Coordinate resource mobilization to support research and development, and technology transfer;
  • Coordinate mining of appropriate technologies;
  • Provide support to the production and quality control departments/units in the aspects of equipment installation, operation qualification, process validation, and testing method validation;

General Manager, Production

Job Purpose:

  • Steer the overall budget preparation process for recurrent and development expenditures at the Institute including annual estimates;
  • Spearhead communication of approved annual estimates to the various departments and divisions for implementation;

Job Purpose:

To coordinate formulation, implementation and review of accounting and internal control system to ensure prudent utilization of resources in the Institute. Lead in maintaining Accounting systems and reports.; and provide financial advice to departments and divisions within the Institute’s overall financial policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • A minimum period of six  (6) years relevant work experience, with at least Two (2)  years in a Supervisory position in the public service or in the private sector;
  • Masters degree in any of the following disciplines: – Commerce (Accounts; Management Accounting and Control; Forensic Accounting and Control), Finance, Economics, Business Administration (Finance Option) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

Principal, Product Quality Officer – Quality Control

Job Purpose:

The Principal Quality Officer – Quality Control will be responsible for performing all in-process quality control activities to ensure that the quality of all product batches meet adopted pre-set local and international quality standards and requirements including  but not limited to standards outlined in World Health Organization Good Manufacturing Practices (WHO GMP); Pharmacy and Poisons Act (Cap 244), The Standards Act (Cap 496), Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Act (Cap 253A) and Kenya Accreditation Service Act, 2019.

Job Purpose:

The Manager, Safety, Health, and Environment Management shall provide leadership, accountability and responsibility for the overall coordination of all aspects of human and environmental safety during the handling of biological and non-biological products used in manufacturing by undertaking constant risk management processes following environmental hazard assessment and environmental exposure assessment. This includes matters biosafety & biosecurity; occupational safety, health and environmental management through the implementation of safe work practices that are in line with regulatory requirements,  in accordance with adapted, local and international, pre-set standards and requirements as stipulated in World Health Organization Good Manufacturing Practices (WHO GMP); Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act (Cap 387); and The Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007, Kenya Accreditation Service Act, 2019.

Additionally, shall create linkages and coordinate knowledge transfer of Safety, Health, Environment, and Biosafety/Biosecurity standards/processes/procedures in accordance with national, regional and international requirements.

Principal Production Scientist, Vaccine and Biologicals- Fill and Finish – 2 Posts

Job Purpose:

The Principal Production Scientist Vaccine and Biologicals – Fill and Finish shall be responsible for filling vials with the vaccine or other biologicals and finishing the process of packaging and labelling the product in preparation for distribution.   The officer shall support the leadership in production activities in the section including raw materials specifications to ensure consistent availability of the department’s full range of finished products at the right quantity, quality, cost and timely manner.

Requirements:

  • At least four (4) years relevant work experience in the Public or Private Sector;
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following disciplines of science: microbiology, biomedical engineering, biology, biometry, medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology, virology, immunology, biotechnology and veterinary medicine, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with emphasis in relevant area (analytical, industrial, organic, physical, biochemistry, materials science);

Job Purpose:

The Principal Engineer, Plant Engineering section shall coordinate all processing and engineering functions in the section to ensure efficient intake, processing, and dispatch of quality vaccines, biologicals, and other products through proper utilisation of machinery. Shall coordinate implementation of engineering strategies on technical issues and acquisition of new technology at KBI including the maintenance and calibration of all equipment and for general site maintenance. Shall also support the leadership, accountability and responsibility in the section to set up, test, and adjust manufacturing machinery or equipment, using any combination of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or computer technologies. This is in order to ensure efficient production of products, including vaccines, other biologicals, pharmaceuticals and other health product technologies at the right quantity, quality, cost and timely manner.

This includes checking, repairing, and servicing machinery, equipment, systems, and infrastructures. The officer shall support the leadership, accountability, responsibility and implementation of strategies in the section to maintain manufacturing machinery or equipment, using any combination of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or computer technologies. This is in order to ensure efficient production of products, including vaccines, other biologicals, pharmaceuticals and other health product technologies at the right quantity, quality, cost and timely manner.

Requirements:

  • At least eight (8) years relevant work experience;
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
