The University Librarian shall, under the
general direction of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research
and Extension, be in charge of the management and provision of University Library Services.

Requirements for direct appointment

For appointment to this
position, a candidate must;

Be a holder of an earned Doctorate degree in Library and Information
Sciences or related
field from a recognized University;

(ii)                 Have fifteen
(15) years working experience in a well-established and automated Library/Information center five (5) of
which must have been in a position comparable to that of Deputy University Librarian;

(iii)                Have published
at least three (3) Articles in Peer Reviewed Journals;

(iv)             Demonstrate outstanding administrative/ managerial capability in the
organization and
management
of library and information services;

(v)               Be a member of a recognized professional association for Librarians,
Kenya Library
Association
(KLA), Library Association (LA) or American Library Association (ALA) and in good
standing;

(vi)             Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (Attach
all
relevant documents);

(vii)           Have a certificate in strategic leadership or management course lasting
not less than four (4) weeks duration from a recognized Institution (attach evidence);
and

(viii)         Meet any other requirements as set by Council.Responsibilities

Duties and
Responsibilities

(i)          Management of library services in the University;

(ii)         Formulation and implementation of library policies and regulations;

(iii)       Formulation of library strategic plans and implementation of work plans;

(iv)        Budget preparation and harmonization for library services;

(v)         Coordination of Information Literacy;

(vi)        Promoting linkages with library stakeholders;

(vii)      Development of the library procurement plan;

(viii)    Participating in the procurement of information materials and library
equipment in liaison

with the Procurement Department;

(ix)        Ensuring current and relevant information materials are provided to users;

(x)         Evaluation of library services, stocktaking and weeding;

(xi)        Maintaining library inventory;

(xii)      Custodian of library equipment and facilities;

(xiii)    Performance appraisal of staff in the library;

(xiv)     Advising on training and professional improvement for library staff; and

(xv)      Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time. 

Catering And Hostels Manager – Department Of Catering and Hostels

The Catering and Hostels Manager is answerable to the Deputy
Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) for organization, controlling and co-ordination of Catering and Hostel
Services.

Requirements for direct appointment

For appointment to this
position, a candidate must;

(i)                   
be a holder
of an earned Master’s degree in Home Economics or Hospitality Management or its
equivalent qualification from a
recognized University;

(ii)                 
have twelve
(12) years relevant working experience holding a senior position in a well-established Hospitality industry;

(iii)               
have
demonstrated outstanding performance, leadership and administrative ability in
a large housekeeping/
Catering Institution;

(iv)               
have a
certificate in strategic leadership or management course of not less than four
(4) weeks duration
from a recognized Institution (attach evidence);

(v)                 
meet the
requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (attach all relevant documents); and

(vi)               
meet any
other requirements as set by Council.

Requirements for Serving Officers

For appointment to this position, an
officer must;

(i)              
be a holder
of an earned Master’s degree in Home Economics or Hospitality Management or its
equivalent qualification from a
recognized University;

(ii)            
have served in the grade of
Senior Hostels Officer/Senior Catering Officer Scale 13 or in a comparable and relevant position for a period of
not less than three (3) years;

(iii)          
have
demonstrated outstanding performance, leadership and administrative ability in a
large housekeeping/Catering
institution;

(iv)          
have a
certificate in strategic leadership or management course of not less than four
(4) weeks duration
from a recognized Institution (attach evidence);

(v)            
meet the
requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (attach all relevant documents); and meet any other requirements
as set by Council.Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

(i)           
ensuring the
welfare of students in the University Catering and Hostels facilities;

(ii)          
organizing,
controlling and coordinating Catering and Hostel Services;

(iii)        
participating
in formulation of policies, strategic plans and Performance Contracts;

(iv)        
communicating
and implementing policy decisions concerning Hostel and Catering Services;

(v)                 
coordinating the preparation of the Departmental budget estimates and
control of expenditure;

(vi)               
preparing procurement plans for Catering and Hostel Services in the
University;

(vii)             
liaising with Procurement Department to ensure adequate supply of
materials for the Department;

(viii)           
maintaining of inventory and equipment in the Department;

(ix)               
ensuring appraisal of staff in the Catering and Hostels Department;

(x)                 
advising on the departmental staff training requirements; and

(xi)               
performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
