Sacco Chief Executive Officer

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Chief Executive Officer of the Union and secretary to the Board.
  • Charged with the responsibility of overseeing the proper implementation of all Union policies as directed by the board of directors.
  • Administration of all the subsidiaries, departments and functional units.
  • Provision of leadership to all the Union’ internal management teams.
  • Provision of technical advice and operational feedback to the Union board of directors and board sub-committees in order to assist them in the formulation of policies and regular review of the existing policies.
  • Ensuring that plans, procedures, rules, manuals, programs, systems, controls and structures are in place for the smooth running of operations and attainment of the Union objectives.
  • Development of appropriate organizational structures that will lead to optimum utilization of all Union resources.
  • Ensuring effective supervision of staff at all levels of the organization in order to achieve optimal institution effectiveness.
  • Ensuring proper administration of staff in accordance with the Union’s Human Resource policy and existing labor and employment laws.
  • Provision of guidance to the union board of directors in the recruitment and deployment of staff.
  • To cultivate and encourage productivity and results oriented culture in the Union.
  • Ensuring existence of and compliance with proper framework to analyze business results with a view to reviewing various strategies and/or effective control measures.
  • Keeping abreast with all material undertakings of the Union and all material factors affecting the Union and to ensure that processes and systems are in place to ensure that the Board and management are adequately informed.
  • To ensure that the Board is adequately informed, and that sufficient information is provided to enable the Directors form appropriate judgments
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders
  • Provide oversight in the preparation and implementation of annual work plans, procurement plans and budgets
  • Preparation and presentation of management reports to the Union Board
  • In concert with the Board Chairman, to determine the date, time and location of the annual delegates meeting and develop the agenda for the meeting
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the board of directors from time to time.

Skills, Competencies and Experience.

The incumbent will be required to have the following skills, attributes and competencies;

  • A bachelor’s degree in a business-related field from a recognized university, preferably in Co-operatives management, agribusiness, accounting/finance, Economics, Business administration and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior management in a busy agribusiness entity preferably in the coffee sub-sector.
  • Membership in Professional Organizations will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Good Analytical skills- Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs workflows and procedures.
  • Problem Solving skills – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyses information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • Project Management – Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities.

Sacco Senior Accountant

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient and effective management of the FOSA department and supervision of staff.
  • Coordinate cash collections from the bank and ensure proper recording in the Treasury book and system.
  • Design, administer and interpret FOSA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements in the execution of FOSA operations.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and ensure adequate budgetary controls.
  • Design, implement, and promote demand-driven FOSA-related products and services.
  • Manage all society cash payments made through the FOSA.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all FOSA transactions.
  • Ensure that the FOSA observes liquidity and cash ratios and that adequate levels of cash and treasury management are maintained.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the treasury cash movement throughout the Sacco.
  • Manage the operations of all FOSA loans and advances to ensure efficiency and income growth throughout the department.
  • Prepare monthly FOSA reports as well as product/service consumption.
  • Ensuring adherence to cash security arrangements and insurance requirements.
  • Responsible for safe custody of cash office Strong room and strong room safe keys.
  • Prepare, guide, mentor, and motivate FOSA staff to deliver on the approved strategic goals and targets.
  • Conducting performance appraisals for personnel in the FOSA department.
  • Identify irregularities such as fraud, forgery, theft, and cash differences, and take appropriate action in collaboration with the Finance Manager.
  • Daily reconciliation of Cash office account transactions considering, Front office withdrawals, ATM withdrawals, and replenishment of the two accounts.
  • Responsible for filling and Maintenance of all FOSA accounting records.
  • Accountable for management of access to the treasury .
  • Responsible for issuance of cash and till to the tellers and safe custody of the same before closing of the cash office (end-of-day reports).
  • Adherence to the IFRS, Accounting Policies, Sacco Finance policy, Other Sacco Policies, and any other relevant laws and regulations governing the operations of the Sacco.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Co-operative Management, Banking, Accounting, Business, or Economics, from a recognized University.
  • CPA (K) and must be an ICPAK member in good standing.
  • ACCA Final (an added advantage).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in carrying out finance functions in a Deposit-Taking Sacco Society, 3 of which should be in a FOSA Management/supervisory role.
  • Conversant with the Co-operative Act, SACCO Act, SASRA requirements, and IFRS.
  • Working experience with MS Dynamics Navision.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receiving cash from Treasury and Making over the counter payments.
  • Registration of Cash Office Current accounts, Debit Cards, and Mobile services.
  • Management of ATM Operations Specifically issuing of ATM cards.
  • Reconciliation of daily teller and Cash Office transactions.
  • Ensure efficient running of cash office and ATM operations,
  • Responsible for proper registration, processing, disbursement, and management of ATM cards and PINs.
  • Proper filling of cash office transactions including daily and Monthly reports.
  • Generation of Cash office reports for audit and administration purposes.
  • Participating in the budgeting process for the cash office facility
  • Adherence to the IFRS, Accounting Policies, Sacco Finance policy, other Sacco policies, and any other relevant laws and regulations governing the operations of the Sacco.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A citizen of Kenya with a bachelor’s degree in Co-operative Management, Banking, Accounting, Business, or Economics, from a recognized University.
  • Final profession qualification CPA (K).
  • Working experience with MS Dynamics Navision.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a teller or Accounts Assistant.
