Statistician-Data Scientist

Duties and Resposnbilites

  • Overseeing database management and maintenance
  • Developing M&E guidelines, data collection, management and analysis protocols
  • Statistical analysis of routine project and study data
  • Actively interrogating data for discrepancies, errors, and missing data, to verify the accuracy and validity
  • Liaising with study investigators on study design, sampling, data quality and resolving any errors according to the study protocol and good clinical practice standards
  • Ensuring source documents are safeguarded and that optimal data quality is maintained
  • Ensuring a clean log frame of data queries and how they have been resolved
  • Participating in the development of project reports, abstracts, manususcripts, and presentations for dissemination and learning
  • Developing standard operating procedures for data management
  • Discussing and interpreting results with the research team and collaborators
  • Ensuring deadlines and project milestones relating to data and analyses are met

Job Specifications, Applicants shall have

  • Masters degree in Biostatistics PLUS a Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following areas: Statistics, Mathematics or Biometry.
  • At least five (5) years working experience in handling research health information systems
  • Experience in writing scientific manuscripts and writing grants
  • Excellent computer skills and competence in either R, Stata or other statistical package for quantitative analysis.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with donor-funded projects in a similar position or related field
  • Posess the following: skills in database development, good analytical and presentation skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and also be able to work under pressure ad meeti deadlines.

Project Manager

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator or his delegated appointee, the project manager will be responsible for the project management and coordination roles and responsibilities. The project manager will lead and manage all the aspects of the five year project across the lifecycle, from inception phase through the implementation, handover and close-out. The individual must ensure that the project is delivered to contract while upholding the University of Nairobi’s standards, meeting the needs of the project beneficiaries and maintaining a healthy collaboration with the members of this partnership

Roles and responsibilities

  • Establish the project’s work plans with clear deliverables and timelines.
  • Establish and manage collaborations with partnering regional universities.
  • Oversee the day to day implementation of the project’s activities.
  • Develop, maintain and apply quality project management processes including compliance with donor reporting.
  • Manage the project resources, including budgeting, cost controls and financial projections in close collaboration with the project accountant.
  • Plan and coordinate all the activities of the project including regional training workshops and stakeholder engagement meetings across the country.
  • Conduct regular reporting to the donor.

Job Specifications, Applicants shall have

  • A minimum of a Master degree in any of the following fields: Project Management Or Business Administration, Health Sciences or related field.
  • At least 8 years experience in direct donor funded project management and support including project startup, implementation, contractual and financial compliance.
  • Extensive experience in management of projects related to public health, data science, capacity building, informatics systems or artificial intelligence.
  • Extensive knowledge of project funding cycles, planning, leading, delivering on projects scopes, time and quality, donor reporting and stakeholder/beneficiaries/partners satisfaction.
  • Extensive experience in project management tools, methodologies, and project control tools for optimizing team performance.
  • Extensive experience in collaborative and shared online work spaces.

The Engage Project Assistant will provide administrative and organizational support to the Project Managers and project team. They will coordinate the project’s field activities, manage documentation, and ensure that project timelines and objectives are met.   • Proficiency in office productivity software’s (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Possess the following: Strong organizational and time-management skills, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and should demonstrate ability to give attention to detail, work with a high degree of accuracy, work effectively in a team and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Possession of skills in accounting and budgeting for donor funded research will be an added advantage.
