Accountant Kenya – National Position

  • As an Accountant, you will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare statements, budget controls, financial reports, projections, and utilize appropriate accounting control procedures according to Malteser International internal policies, that include financial, administrative and procurement guidelines. In addition, the Accountant will build and develop partner capacities, assist in partner assessment for the partner projects in Kenya and maintain regular communication with fund management units of various donors to ensure good working relationships.

Your responsibilities:

  • Control of cash books from Malteser projects in Kenya according to Malteser standards.
  • Ensuring cash books are sent complete and in good order to Malteser HO in Cologne.
  • Preparation of budget controls for Malteser Kenya projects (according to donors and Malteser expenditures) and giving regular feedback of the same to the projects.
  • Independent preparation of financial reports, particularly donor reports with subsequent authorization by management.
  • Voucher correction according to technical checks by ASU Thailand and ensure proper filing of vouchers.
  • Regular sorting of vouchers according to donor reports.
  • Preparation of internal and external cash requests for Nairobi office.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
  • Assisting in partner assessments and capacity building for financial matters.
  • Conduct quarterly partner and monitoring visits for partner projects.
  • Prepare annual closure with all necessary documents and communication; this includes development of trial balance and other required documents for auditors.
  • Substitute Administrative Assistant in his/her absence in financial matters.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual projects / Kenya budgets.
  • Update the annual Nairobi budget if needed (any changes, new projects).
  • Signing of cheques, PRFs, CBAs, and POs, in absence of supervisor/s.
  • Preparation of advance administration list.
  • Preparation of bank reconciliations.
  • Petty Cash Management and Safe custodian.
  • Other duties assigned by the management and/or direct supervisor.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or Finance and a recognized certificate or professional qualification in accounting, ACCA or at least CPA Part 2 qualification.
  • Three to five years accounting experience.
  • Experience working with computerized accounting and financial systems, standard spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach including experience in working in international environments.
  • Ability to prioritize work according to importance and deadlines while meeting work demands.
  • Possesses initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in all aspects of work.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.
  • Excellent English oral and written language skills.
