Project Coordinator – ESG & Carbon

Key Responsibilities:

Program Planning, Implementation & Monitoring

Carbon Development

  • Provide support to the development of the program’s carbon development outcomes as contained in the programme’s Logical Framework (LF) and Detailed Implementation Plans (DIPs) including Project Design Document, validation, verification and other carbon related matters.
  • Coordinate stakeholder mapping, analysis, engagement and reporting according to applicable carbon standard at all levels of the project cycle including but not limited to FPIC, contracting farmer groups and distribution of revenue generated from carbon credits.
  • Contribute technical expertise toward monitoring, annual reporting, development of monitoring reports and disseminate lessons learned to the programme staff.
  • Timely source, synthesize, package, store and disseminate carbon-related documents to different project stakeholders while Ensuring compliance with funder requirements, contract terms, and environmental guidelines;

Environmental & Social Governance (ESG)

  • Ensure implementation and effective monitoring of the Programme’s Environmental and Social Governance policies and protocols.
  • In collaboration with the Program Management Unit (PMU), ensure strict implementation and monitoring of the Programme’s ESG Action Plan.
  • Carry out regular check-ins with Programme partners on areas of ESG non-compliance and ensure that relevant corrective actions are developed and agreed upon, and that the latter are effectively implemented and closed out in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate implementation of the programme’s ESG activities with the relevant parties including the CP’s ESG focal point persons and other programme staff as part of reporting and submission to fulfilll all donor requirements.
  • Ensure programme ESG and safeguarding risks are identified and that suitable mitigation measures are put in place to address these risks.
  • Ensure close collaboration and frequent interaction with consortium partner’s ESG focal persons to ensure timely communication and reporting of any ESG incidents arising from the programme’s operations.
  • Develop, implement and manage an effective ESG monitoring and evaluation system to track the programme’s ESG performance.
  • Coordinate and maintain regular PMU & CP training and capacity building sessions on donor’s ESG Policy and Incident Reporting Protocols.

Quality Assurance, Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • Coordinate and ensure proper planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the programme’s ESG-I to the donor and other relevant programme stakeholders.  
  • Coordinate and participate in joint monitoring visits with consortium partners and program stakeholders to track and document ESG-I and carbon project development implementation progress in targeted counties.
  • Initiate and support timely preparation and submission of the program’s periodic (monthly, quarterly and annual) ESG-I and carbon development related reports and core documents as per WVK    guidelines and donor requirements.

Partnership & Networking

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish platforms for dialogue, feedback and grievance handling mechanism for the program, knowledge sharing, and joint decision-making to address ESG-I challenges.
  • Represent the program in relevant forums, conferences, and meetings to advocate for ESG-I integration and share best practices.
  • Actively participate in the programme meetings, and other WVK forums and meetings as appropriate
  • Contribute to engagement, publications, to communicate program progress and successes on ESG
  • Actively participate and make contributions to Thematic Working Groups (TWGs) as and when required.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Restore Africa Program Director or Environment, Climate Change and Carbon Development Advisor.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Conservation or a closely related field from a recognized University/Institution.
  • MUST be registered with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) as a Lead Expert
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of proven 5 years working on Carbon and ESG-I integration in climate change or sustainable development programs.
  • Familiarity with international standards and guidelines related to ESG such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, IFC Performance Standards etc.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct assessments and develop practical recommendations.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in implementation of integrated development programs with a focus on ecosystem restoration.
  • Ability to build relationships/partnership with all stakeholders (GoK, INGOs, private sector, etc.)
  • S/he must be a self-starter, able to work under minimum supervision, maintain good relationships and be a strong team player.
  • S/he must have excellent interpersonal, communication, networking and presentation skills. Knowledge of carbon accounting principles and sustainability concepts.
  • Technical knowledge in carbon programming, ESG-I, climate change and environmental sustainability.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing monitoring plans for carbon projects
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrated experience working with voluntary carbon market standards like Gold Standard, VCS, CCB e.t.c Knowledge of carbon credit markets strongly preferred.

Program Director – Climate Asset Management Program

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Management

  • Provide effective strategic leadership and direction to the Program Management Unit (PMU)/Secretariat, Project Manager and Field officers.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and oversight to improve the performance of all activities, ensuring efficient and effective Program implementation including the timely completion of high-quality work plans, accurate reports, and other mandated deliverables by all consortium partners.
  • Develop appropriate implementation strategies for the Program.
  • Provide strategic advice on changes and improvements where needed.
  • Provide oversight in the preparation of the project work-plans with clear objectives and achievable benchmarks, reflecting strategic long-term and short-term priorities.
  • Regularly review the program strategy to ensure relevance and enhance the Program impact by suggesting appropriate alternative strategies and changes to the technical working groups.
  • Ensure all Program-based needs and requirements are timely and efficiently shared with support services for best coordinated implementation.
  • Ensure integration of the grant with the partner’s objectives including WVK Initiatives and Child Well- being outcomes in-line with the WVK Strategic priorities.
  • Provide excellent standards in the management of the human, financial and technical resources of the Program, which includes inspiring and maintaining high standards of work and clear accountability to stakeholders.
  • Establish a consultative and participative management environment that engages and develops project teams, combining country office and global office staff, to deliver on donor obligations hence meeting the Program commitment priorities.
  • Manage relationships between the consortium partners to ensure that the Program remains integrated and all partners achieve their outcomes, and that any conflicts are resolved.

Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Ensure that the implementation of the Program is in compliance with the donor, GoK, WVK and other partners’ acceptable standards and norms.
  • Ensure timely surveys of the Program and dissemination of findings to all partners including GoK and the Donor while ensuring streamlining implementation in respect to the outcomes of the survey.
  • With the support of other consortium members, develop a detailed plan that will support delivery of the Program objectives throughout the Program period.
  • Lead in the planning, implementation and budgeting of the Program activities in liaison with the MEAL Coordinator and the Finance & Administration Manager.
  • Organize periodic review meetings for planning and monitoring of Program activities.
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly reporting to the donor and other relevant stakeholders while highlighting implementation status, challenges and key plans for the following months in an acceptable format or a format agreed/provided by the parties.
  • Ensure that partner agencies submit timely and quality periodic and annual reports and plans as required by the donor.

Financial Management & Operational Compliance

  • Promote, uphold, and model commitment to the efficient use of donor resources. Ensure compliance with the GEA grants, including financial tracking and oversight of partner budgets, finance, administration and reporting to the Program Coordination Unit. Approve program expenditures, budget adjustments, and cost modification requests to donors.  
  • Ensure Program quality adherence, contractual compliance and timely reporting.
  • In collaboration with the Grant Finance Manager, take responsibility for Program expenditure, financial accountability and planning requirements, and provide a high level of support to processes and procedures.
  • Monitor the overall financial integrity of Program funds through grant management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure operational standards of the Program are maintained leading to acceptable audit performance
  • Ensure implementation of risk and audit recommendations.
  • Support capacity building of the Program staff to strengthen the organizational practices that result in successful financial and operational audit scores and take lead in the implementation of audit recommendations as per the findings.

Partnership, Advocacy and Networking

  • Develop and maintain close relationships with the donor, Government, Consortium partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the Program and partners are actively represented in coordination structures.
  • Share progress and update on the Program activities within the Global Ever-greening Alliance, WVI partnership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Participation in Kenya or international conferences to share findings from the Program and support improved programmatic impact.
  • Engage and/or get involved to provide support in policy dialogues and identify synergies or opportunities to advance project objectives.
  • Maintain clear, regular and effective lines of communication with Consortium Partners and other relevant stakeholders (GoK, International Agencies, private sector, and other local actors).
  • Organize and convene/chair partners meetings for joint planning and Progress review

Knowledge Management and Innovation

  • Contribute to the development and introduction of innovation to ensure best practice approaches in the operations.
  • Contribute to the dissemination and sharing of best practices and lessons learned for re-greening and land restoration initiatives in Kenya and thus build a body of knowledge across Africa.
  • Promote learning within the grant by supporting in the identification of learning opportunities, research and publications in the thematic areas and disseminating the information to GoK authorities, Consortium Partners, Global Ever-green Alliance and other agencies.
  • Support in the dissemination of promising practices and lessons learned to contribute to the agency and knowledge management agenda while ensuring integration of innovations and best practices.

Others

  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by supervisor or designee from time to time
  • Participate and contribute in committees and task forces

KNOWLDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE:

  • Masters degree in Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Agro-Economics, Agro-forestry, Climate Change, Range Management, or equivalent. Post graduate qualifications in Leadership or International Development will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in relevant field-based project management experience required, with preferably at least 2-3 years working in the area of Landscape Management and Restoration, Climate Smart Agriculture or Sustainable Agriculture Practices.
  • 7 years of experience in managing complex projects, donor funds, including multi-country grants. 
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in budget management preferably with an international NGO.
  • Experience in project design, proposal writing, needs assessments, surveys, and information management.
  • Experience of managing systems and tools to oversee complex program portfolios across different sectors and locations as well as within a consortium.
  • 5 years’ Experience of managing or leading a team of professional staff and a range of stakeholders in a high value donor funded consortium of at least US$ 10-20 million project.
  • Experience working in ASAL is an added advantage
  • Excellent strategic & analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with the capacity to see the big picture and the ability to make sound judgments and decisions. 
  • Excellent relations management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels internally and externally. Strategic in how you approach each relationship.

Infrastructure & CyberSecurity Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

IT Infrastructure and Capacity Planning

  • Recommends the direction for LAN/WAN, internet, wireless, and remote access services.
  • Works with client teams to gather requirements. Analyses and documents requirements.
  • Determines requirements impact on existing architecture, work processes and systems.
  • Determines infrastructure systems specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.

  • Works closely with IT and development teams to design secure infrastructure solutions and applications, facilitating the implementation of protective and mitigating controls.
  • Manages the implementation of the cybersecurity programs aimed at identification, management and remediation of threats to improve the cybersecurity posture.
  • Assesses potential items of risk and opportunities of vulnerability in the network and on information technology infrastructure and applications.
  • Reviews risk assessments, analyzes the effectiveness of IT control activities, and reports on them with actionable recommendations

Telecom Systems Management:

  • Configures and maintains routers, switches and hubs for the enterprises network
  • Design, implement and manage voice network configurations (including IP telephony and VoIP)
  • Deploys and reviews new telecommunications components and services to ensure they meet client expectations
  • Analyzes and resolves issues related to facilities bandwidth requirements, capacity planning, and analyzes system interdependencies

Customer Support:

Vendor Management:

  • Works with vendors to resolve network/telecom problems.
  • Monitors services provided by vendors to ensure service levels meet requirements.

  • Notifies management when contract requirements are not being met.

Research/Evaluation:

  • Conducts technical research on network/telecommunications upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
  • Develops and maintains metrics around the system and institutes a process for continuous improvement.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a similar role with advanced network, cloud and/or systems related vendor certifications.
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in design and operation of enterprise IT networks
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of enterprise systems and cloud expertise – Azure, Amazon Web Services, MS Servers, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, O365 and enterprise security applications coupled with a high ability to quickly learn new technologies.
