Kenya Country Finance and Operations Manager

About the Role

You will work closely with the global accounting team to oversee daily financial operations for the Tupande program. You will be responsible for accurate financial reporting through managing the quality of Tupande’s internal daily accounting processes and pre-approving transactions before the data is shared to global accounting. You will report to the country finance director.

Responsibilities

  • Budgeting, forecasting and analysis 
    • Manage annual budgeting  and forecasting processes.
    • Work with department heads on cost efficiency strategies and present new strategies to stakeholders in compelling arguments.
  • Financial reporting 
    • Prepare monthly management accounts and margin analysis including clear financial commentaries and remedial actions for any variances
    • Review the Kenya quarterly Income Statements and balance sheet for completeness and accuracy 
    • Prepare financial and operational summaries for donors in specified formats in collaboration with the Grants Finance team
  • Financial management 
    • Review and approve journal entries and transactions as per delegation of authority
    • Streamline in-country accounting operations and maintain organizations finance policies
    • Manage Kenya’s working capital through proactive review of cash funding requests, input orders, receivables management and inventory monitoring.
  • Financial risk management
    • Evaluate internal controls and manage manage financial risk
    • Support the compliance team in ensuring compliance to tax and other financial regulatory requirements
    • Support the Financial Reporting and Compliance team in coordinating, reviewing, and finalizing the external audit

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (SAP).
  • Professional accounting certification – CPA / ACCA
  • Experience in finance management, compliance and audit.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial modeling with excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets) 
  • Ability and drive to work independently, while prioritizing potentially conflicting demands from multiple teams.
  • 5+ years of experience with process design and implementation.

Tax Compliance Senior Specialist

About the Role

Finance is seeking a Senior tax and regulatory specialist to oversee all tax and regulatory compliance matters while implementing tax processes and solutions according to regulatory requirements to ensure that One Acre Fund is compliant. You will report to the Global Senior Finance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance
    • Review and ensure accurate filing of monthly direct and indirect taxes, as well as any provisional returns through the year
    • File the country program’s income tax returns in accordance with the full year audited financials
    • Review, monitor and update tax compliance/clearance certificates for program countries
    • Prepare the global IRS Form 990 workbook with support from manager
  • Tax Advisory
    • Proactively monitor emerging tax regulation changes and advise the concerned department on best actions to take while supporting implementation of any new tax regulations and systems
    • Deliver tax training to the wider finance division and program teams
    • Research and respond to enquiries from departments relating to tax regulations
    • Provide tax advice and support to other teams that manage other taxes such as HR to ensure full compliance
    • Identify compliance risks and advise country programs on how to eliminate/minimize them in instances of new registrations, de-registrations or changes in legal entity registrations
    • Engage and coordinate services offered by tax consultants to ensure value for money
  • Revenue Authorities and Annual Regulatory Audits
    • Support the accounting team in putting tax related analysis/reconciliations for the annual audits
    • Manage the communication with revenue authorities for tax audit from beginning to end
    • Collate supporting documents requested for all audits to ensure that the org can evidence compliance
    • Ensure the organization has relevant tax and regulatory agencies contacts and that the existing relationships are cordial
  • Manage People
    • Recruit, hire, develop and retain excellent talent 
    • Proactively manage succession planning
    • Set and monitor team Key Performance Indicators

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • A university degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • 4+ years of relevant tax and regulatory compliance experience – knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures and experience with a variety of tax operations
  • Ability to drive process improvements.
  • 3+ years corporate tax experience across African countries, especially East Africa    
  • Pursuing or completed CPA/ACCA with completion of in-depth tax courses (preferred)
  • You have project management and accounting skills
  • Excel proficiency (ability to perform complex formulas)
  • Familiarity with SAP Business One (or full SAP)

Tupande Data Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Create an ETL package to pull impact data into our warehouse; perform transformations to create project-specific datasets, and design a portal to share with external researchers
  • Strategically expand self-service BI, empowering users across all teams to access data directly – we believe in getting data in the hands of those who know it best
  • Identifying data gaps within the Kenya program. Then designing pipelines to pull the data from source systems into our data warehouse, perform transformations and make it available to data analysts/scientists
  • Optimize SQL queries to improve report performance
  • Create a UAT strategy in coordination with our stakeholders; drive testing requirements for a new dataset in the data warehouse; and build confidence in the accuracy of our data across the organization

Global Transport & Logistics Associate

Responsibilities

  • Ensure goods arrive at One Acre Fund’s domestic warehouses 100% on time and in full, and ensure less than 0.5% loss of goods in transit due to mishandling at loading/re-bagging or transportation process
  • Manage partnerships and performance reviews with high quality third-party logistics providers to simplify and de-risk logistics operations
  • Reduce transport costs across all countries and product categories by 3-5% through strategically negotiated LTAs and regular process improvements
  • Guide transport time-saving improvements through streamlined/consolidated product delivery and other logistics process automation
  • Lead coordination between Global Supply Chain and in-country Logistics teams to drive best practice transportation at all stages of delivery to farmers
  • Support Procurement activities across all countries of operation
