The objective of this consultancy is to amplify the voices of youth in relation to two Fondation Botnar funded projects. The communication specialist will collaborate closely with the Planning, Finance and Economy Section, the Human Rights and Social Inclusion Section, Local Governments, implementing partners as well as local project teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

About UN-Habitat UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable and resilient towns and cities. It is the focal point agency for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat envisions well-planned, well-governed and efficient cities and towns, with adequate housing, infrastructure and universal access to employment and basic services such as water, energy, and sanitation. The Urban Practices Branch (UPB) is the tools and methodology production center of the UN- Habitat that develops normative guidance and cutting-edge tools through communities of urban practices and is the operational level responsible to undertake technical cooperation projects, such as the construction of water and sanitation facilities, shelter and other work. The Planning, Finance & Economy Section (PFES) is responsible to support urban and territorial planning at all scales including through the development of planning policy, norms and guidelines, urban design and public space design, urban finance (municipal finance and urban development/projects finance), and local economic development. The consultant will support the Young Gamechangers Initiative activities, a project focusing on young people’s urban health and well-being in Senegal, India, and Colombia. Duties and responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Programme Management Officer of the Young Gamechangers Initiative, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  •  Designing and executing comprehensive engagement and outreach strategies to enhance youth participation in urban initiatives and global forums.
  •  Producing diverse communication materials, including dissemination materials, digital storytelling platforms, podcasts, and collaboration with influencers to showcase the initiatives’ impacts and activities.
  •  Establishing and maintaining a central knowledge sharing repository for communities of practice, focusing on collecting, curating, and disseminating resources, insights, and best practices.
  •  Fostering collaborative relationships with participants, partners, and stakeholders to amplify the reach and impact of urban initiatives eEplTVR Czi2tI
  •  Continuously monitoring the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, evaluate the engagement levels, and report on the outcomes of various initiatives.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualification: Minimum 1st level University Degree preferably in communications; marketing, journalism and international affairs or another related field is required. Work Experience:

  •  At least two (2) years’ of progressively responsible work experience in media and strategic communications is required.
  •  Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns targeted towards youth audiences is an added advantage
  •  Strong knowledge of digital media platforms, social media trends, and innovative communication tools
  •  Proficiency in creating engaging multimedia content, including graphics, videos, podcasts, and written materials.
  •  Experience in using analytics tools to measure the impact of communication activities.

Languages

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
