Economics Teacher

The position

We are looking for a passionate Economics Teacher to join an experienced team of seven IB educators in the Individuals and Society /Humanities department. The Teacher will be responsible for raising the standards of student attainment and achievement in Economics, for monitoring, and supporting student progress as well as supervising Extended Essay.

Duty & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for their subject that serves to motivate and encourage students to attain their personal best.
  • Design engaging learning and assessment activities that develop deep understanding.
  • Support students to be confident thinkers in a safe learning environment.
  • Plan collaboratively with colleagues to design the MYP/DP units that effectively deliver the programmes.
  • Monitor and report on student progress in Individuals and Societies.
  • Act as an Extended Essay supervisor.
  • Act as a form tutor/mentor to guide and support a small group of students
  • Contribute to the development of enrichment / co-curricular and experiential activities.
  • Teach Integrated Humanities to students between the ages of 11 and 15
  • Participate in the residential programme and service-learning experiences for students.

The requirements

  • Bachelor of Education or Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching qualification and experienced in teaching either Economics /History/Global Politics IBDP for at least 2 years.
  • Genuine interest in and commitment to the mission of the Aga Khan Academies 
  • A knowledge of criterion-based and the ability to incorporate in the teaching and learning would be advantageous

Translanguaging Teacher

The position

The Translanguaging Teacher will be responsible for providing high-quality language instruction in Kiswahili and English to students using a translanguaging approach. S/He will co-teach with the homeroom teacher, provide individualized instruction, track student progress, create resources and motivate students to use Kiswahili effectively while catering to the diverse learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver effective language instruction using a translanguaging approach
  • Create engaging lesson plans that incorporate students’ language backgrounds and promote bilingualism
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Assess student learning and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
  • Provide regular feedback to students and parents on progress and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support students’ language development
  • Stay up-to-date with current research and trends in translanguaging and bilingual education

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
  • TSC Certificate or an internationally recognized teaching qualification or a B Ed/M Ed
  • Experience in teaching in a bilingual or translanguaging setting
  • Fluency and ability to use both English and Kiswahili for higher-order thinking and communication
  • Experience in teaching the PYP for at least 3 years
  • Experience in teaching other subjects (unit of inquiry or Maths) in Kiswahili

The position

The Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa is currently recruiting a Digital Design and Computer Studies Teacher with ability to teach IB mathematics or Science. She/he will be part of a community that develops young people’s talent and potential from Mombasa to be the well-educated, ethical and pluralistic leaders of tomorrow. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To plan curriculum documents in a collaborative manner to reflect the standards and practices of the Academy. 
  • To engage in effective teaching practice that embraces inquiry teaching and learning methods and differentiate activities to meet the needs of all students. 
  • To authentically assess, record and track the progress of all students.  
  • To communicate necessary programme information to all stakeholders.  
  • To resource programme needs effectively and ensure careful maintenance of existing inventory. 
  • To actively participate in the life of the Senior School and the Academy as a whole, in and out of normal school hours.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
  • At least 2 year experience in early years/primary
  • Must have a TSC certificate or an internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Prior experience teaching music is required.
  • Previous IBMYP experience is preferred
  • Experience in teaching Mathematics or Science will be an added advantage
